Hi folks,

Does anybody here have a source for some good old-fashioned 150# Manila pattern paper? Universal Sewing Supply has it, but only in 375' rolls; a bit much for my needs. Thanks for any leads!

Well, it isn't manilla, but it does work. It comes in 77 yard rolls for about 7 dollars. I had used medical paper for years (it is great). This is almost the same thing. If you are interested, try this link:

Hi Pam,

Thanks much for that link. I may have to get some lightweight stuff for the time being, and you saved me a search!

But what I'm ultimately looking for is the really heavy manila paper that's like cardstock. You can't pin through it, you use weights and trace around it for just one or two layers. The big workrooms use it with their electric knives to cut multiple layers; at least that's the way we did it at Sierra Designs back in the 70s when I was young (and dinosaurs roamed the Earth :bluewink: ).

Oh, we used that for our sloper patterns in college. Great stuff! Unfortunately, we got it from the college bookstore (it was ordered especially for our class, or I think it was). I wonder if you could find it at an art supply or if you should be so lucky to live near a large college/university where they might teach flat pattern, maybe they have it?

OK, now that's a great idea about the college angle, I never would have thought of that! There are two colleges in my part of the state, both a couple hours away, but worth checking out. Thanks!

School Supply Stores carry a brown kraft paper that is pretty heavy weight.. I have bought it in the past at the one in the shopping center close to me.. It is the kind of store that sells to teachers, etc.. I think they call it bulletin board cover or something like that..

Another good idea, thanks Libby. Yesterday I had to be in town so I grabbed a couple of rolls of craft paper at our little hardware/fabric/school supply/Five & Dime type store. It's a little darker than manila but still light enough to show the markings clearly, and it will do the trick for me until I can locate some of the real stuff (or can justify buying the humongous 75 lb. roll!).

Thanks for all the help with this, everyone!
