I'm struggling with this....sewing for my DD (4) is easy.....she "fits" the measurements on the pattern envelope fairly closely and I just need to lengthen hems on dresses. But my DS (13) ....ugh....I can't even figure out what size pattern to start with for anything more fitted than sleep-pants. I pulled out my Simplicity Sewing Book and took all the measurements it suggested and I'm still lost. Can someone help? Chest = 36" Waist = 35.5" Hip = 37" Back Waist Length = 16.25" Shoulder Length = 5.5" Back Width = 16" Arm length = 23" Neck = 14" height = 5'4.5" So going by height and chest, I'm coming up with teen boys size 20 but then his waist is 5.5" bigger than the pattern size. Should I be looking at Men's sizes? I've been sewing a Men's medium for boxers and sleep-pants for him. The boxers work out ok but the sleep-pants are HUGE (which works for sleep-pants but I foresee issues with seat/crotch adjustments for anything more tailored). The length I can adjust no problems. Any fitting experts out there? Linda

It looks to me as if he is straight from chest to hips (only 1 inch difference in all 3 measurements).. you just need to not cut any pattern that tapers from waistline to hipline.. Just alter your patterns to be straight from hipline up thru waistline.. Make a test garment for fit...
