My pregnant friend has asked me to join her in going through her wardrobe to see which clothes can be adapted as her bump grows. She doesnt really want to spend a fortune on maternity clothes. She is a UK size 12 so I cant really see anything being adaptable. I wondered if you had any ideas/suggestions. Thanks. |

My most worn item of clothing was a pair of dungarees - any of those you could put gores into on the outer leg seam? These are also known as godets and are generally triangular shaped pieces of fabric inserted into a slash or a seam to give extra fullness to a garment. You could then make eyelets down the original leg seam and lace in the fullness to make it expandable. I don't know if it would work with jeans. Instead of buying maternity tights, just buy them larger and wear the bum over your bump.
love and kisses, Jan

You can buy maternity panels at most stores and insert them into pants / jeans etc. I always found my thighs grew too and liked to slit the jeans down the side and do fabric inserts, if you can find buttonhole elastic that is great to put along the top edge of the maternity panel (any spandex like fabric will do if you can't find the panels. Larger sizes work till you get past that 6-7 months point and then you have to throw in the proverbial towel and get real maternity stuff, ugh, expensive and usually ugly! I scoop some of hubbies sweaters and shirts at times too ! Jeanette
