I want to make a playmat/quilt for my son for Christmas with a checkerboard and maybe a tic tac toe board and other things for him to play at. Does anyone know of a pattern for this.

Sherri, have you considered painting the disign you want? I make floorcloths and paint the disigns on my cloths with acrylics.

Quiltsmart has a game quilt kit that they've made. It has several different games on it. You could look at that.

To make a checkerboard would be fairly simple though for a play mat. All you have to do is make (I believe) 8 rows of alternating 8 squares in 2 different colors. Then, you put a border around the edge of it.

Hope, that answers your question.

Sheri,

Wished you would have asked early fall. WalMart here had beach towels with various games printed on them. They were clearanced for near to nothing. I could have bought you some and sent them to you.
If you do find a pattern I suggest making them from flannel or fleece and putting velcro on the back of the game pieces. That way you could just stick the pieces to the mat when done and roll it up no worries about losing pieces.

I purchased some because I thought they were awsome! I think I got twister and checkers. I bet they will be out again after christmas is over.

I just wanted to say that I love fabric markers and they are remarkable easy to use! Wal-mart sells them. It would not be difficult to make a game board design and iron it to heat set. If you wanted you could draw on right on a fabric tablecloth and be done in a snap.

It is not hard to make a checkerboard play mat if you are a beginner quilter. I have done it many times but I do believe Cracker Barrel sells the premade cloths with the checker pieces.
