I know how to use a machine, and own one, but how do I measure my crotch length MYSELF, and then how do I shorten the crotch in my jeans?

The only way I have ever been successful in shortening a crotch length in pants is to remove the waistband and shorten from the top then sew the waistband back on. However, in most jeans, depending on how many pockets, etc., there are in the jeans, it may be a bit of a pain.
