We have been having an interesting discussion over on the Swaps board. It has become obvious that sewers and crafters on this site would like to be bitten by the swapping bug also. So I am going to step up and try to organize some sewing/crafting type swaps. This is where I run into a problem. What do we swap? I Googled the heck out of my computer (looking for ideas) and the only swaps I could find were quilting related.
So here are some things that postcard girl suggested and a some of my own to get us started.
Please vote for things that you would be interested in(you can vote for them all if you like).
If there is something not on the list that you think would be a good idea just let me know.

Ooooohhhhhh, I liked 3 of the ideas, so that's a lot to think about. I'm assuming with the trims ideas or buttons we would set a pre-set limit of send this many buttons of the same type?

OK! Let's talk about patterns.
Shall we do this one similar to a fat quarter swap?
12 or so people to a group and then you would get 12 patterns or were you all thinking something more like a partner swap?
Since this is new we can make it however we want it.

Yeah, I was thinking a set amount of buttons of a certain theme.
Suggest numbers on this one people as I am not a big buttoner. :nc:

Do you all want to jump right on this and do one for December or should we start in January?

Gina I don't know who all has embroidery machines but they have towel swaps on the embroidery boards I'm told. My friend belongs to several of them and she gets towels from everywhere including Austrailia. I don't know about any of you but I can never get enough dish towels. Just a thougth. I can't join until after Feb but after that I'm in. (Getting ready for a baby shower in January for Grandbaby #7............second one in 4 months.) They're killing me here.ROFL Hugs susie

Yeah but, Susie, if you're anything like my Mother she can't wait to get grandbabies, and then more grandbabies. She's getting 3 at once because my half brother's wife is pregnant, and she's eagerly waiting for her baby as well. She's none too patient.

I like the tea towel idea, that could be fun, but maybe we could just make it an embellished towel, for those of us who do not have embroidery machines at this time, then we could join in as well.

I like the embellished towel idea. Help on this one. Would we do partners or a group thing? Would we do it every month or rotate it with the other crafting and sewing swaps? Let me know what you want.

I think the number of people in it and how often would be somewhat codependent. The more people that you are trading with and the more embellished it is, the less often that you want to do it.
For instance, if the trade was a fancy hand towel for a bathroom, you may be just sewing on a coordinating trim to the towel, but for a dish towel, you may do more of an embroidery type of thing. I'm not quite sure my point made sense, but, that's what I was thinking.
You could very easily do themes for this like is done for the fat quarter swaps, so that people can get something that would match their homes and decor.
But, I agree I like the idea of a tea towel or hand towel swap or something like that.

Any way would be fine with me Gina. I just can't do anything until after Feb with sewing with this Grandbaby coming. I just thought that would give you an idea of where you could go with the swaps.

Emblishments sound great. All I have now is a 32 stitch Euro Pro zig zag to sew on and I'm having withdrawlers for my embroidery machine. This is where two machines come in handy.

Yes Ticia, I do love my Grands. They are so nice to have around. Especially since I only had boys and now I have more girls then boy Grands.

I've been reading your messages about swaps and I just don't understand how you can swap through the internet? Am I totally missing something? :whacky: I have lots of goodies that I would love to swap with others but just now sure how I could send my goodies off and get someone elses'???

I am no expert on swapping but I will try to answer your question. There are two ways to swap on the internet, Centralized (where everyone sends stuff to the host of the swap and she then turns around and sends it out again) and Decentralized (the host collects the names and addresses of everyone who is participating and then sends out a list via e-mail to everyone, the participants then send the items dirrectly to the people they are swapping with). The swaps here on SWN tend to be decentralized.

When the swaps actually happen. There will be a list of who's participating and you get their mailing address from them. Then you mail the goodies to them. You will usually confirm with everyone on the boards that you got the package, and let them know it's off.

Does that explain it?

OK we have a lot of interest here. I plan to start in January. For the first few months we will do a different one each month. I'll keep it simple for the first month then go on to the more involved ones. I will follow the same basic rules as the other swaps requiring that you participate in a simple swap before being allowed into the more expensive and time consuming ones. Once I get this all organized I will be posting the themes and rules over on the Swaps board.

:coffee: Hi Everyone,

I just joined tonight, so I guess that makes me the new kid on the block. I love the idea of swaps; Thanks for the chance to vote. I love the idea of towels because linens wear out and we can always use more. It also made me think of coasters, place mats (or 1 mat for center of table), mug rugs, pot holders & hot pads. The idea of a themed, filled mug swap is also intriguing, - probably because I survive on coffee. I also LOVE patterns, but what kind are we considering?

This is a great idea! But hard to choose which one!!!!

I've done a towel chain letter where you mail towels to each other. But I've never 'swapped.' I'm a fairly new sewer and crafter but willing to participate and learn. =)
