I have resorted to trying to teach myself how to sew and am baffled by what I'm sure is a very simple process. I have an old Kenmore sewing machine and can't for the life of me figure out how to sew (I think you call it but not even sure)a blind hem. I am looking to do a hem on dress pants that doesn't show on the outside. I would prefer to do it using my machine. I need the dumbed down basics as I am very new to all of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi SuzanneDB, welcome to Sew Whats New.

I bet your problem is in the folding on the wrong side of the pant leg.

See if this helps. Finish the edge of your fabric. Press your hem allowance.
Fold the hem back on itself so that about 1/4" of finished edge extends beyond your fold. The wrong side of your pant leg should be facing up.

When your needle swings into the fold, it should catch the tiniest piece of fabric. Hope this helps.

My ancient Kenmore has pictures in the instruction book with how to do this.. Do you have yours? (instruction book) Mine is now living at DIL's house with the machine.. So I cannot read the instruction part and send it, but the above instructions are right..
