Any ideas on how to make halter straps (that go either around the neck or crisscross in back and attach to the back body of the top) adjustable so that it will fit a standard customer comfortably? I'm making a pretty simple halter, size medium, from scratch--no pattern but my own imagination. The fabric is not conducive to tying a bow or knot. I would need to put in either buttons & button holes and maybe velcro as added insurance that the button doesn't come undone with a lot of movement. If I sew on buttons, do you think they should go on the back body of the top or should I put them on the end of the strap and the buttonholes on the back body? It would be easier for someone to move a button than a buttonhole! I just want to sew this some way to make the strap sizing adjustable. What do you think of this idea--sewing a thick satiny ribbon at the neck then having it head downward crisscrossing into little eyelet buttonholes I could sew into the back body? Do you think ribbon would look pretty coming down the center back from the neckline and then lacing down to the hem? Thanks for all suggestions. Amy, I love the idea of the satin ribbon. If this is a holiday dress, I think it would be perfect.

Thanks, Mary: This idea will work on this particular style, but I still would appreciate ideas on how to handlle making straps adjustable for less dressy halters. Best, Amy http://www.thewearwithall.com |
