I have a Brother PE 150 and I keep having trouble with the thread either breaking or the top thread will get bunched in the bobbin. What thread should I be using? I was using coats & clark embroidery thread. Also what size needle? I been using 90/14 is this right? Thanks for any help you can give me. Sometimes it works ok but most of the time I end up ruining my project. Sweatshirts is what I'm trying to do. Thank You

Loosen up the tension.I have also found that using the prewound size L bobbin plastic sided, works better in the bobbin.

Are you stabilizing your project correctly as well? That can cause issues too.

I would definately change my needle size. Try a 12. Also when loading your bobbin thread, make sure you are inserting correctly.

I usually put the water stazilier on top. I went to the prewound bobbins because my machine wasn't winging the bobbins tight enough and was having that problem. After I started using the NED plastic side prewound bobbins the problem went away.

The stablizer is going to be according to the fabric. There are different ones to be used. I use coats and clark and it works fine. Bobbin thread is always better because it is a 60wt. What is it you are doing embroidery on?

My step sister was having problems with hers like that and it was the thread. she has the PE150. She bought thread socks, (those little net looking things that cover the thread on the spool pin and it kept the thread from getting tangled on top, no more problems. You can get those at Joanne's or Hancocks. Sometimes the cheaper thread is thinner and it does that.

All of these are good suggestions. Let me throw one in there as well. When I started using my PE150V I also bought cotton embroidery bobbin thread. Terrible problems! I then was recommended the Sulky rayon bobbin and lingerie thread and never a problem since. Well, no problems with the machine... :monkey:

Here's an almost foolproof way to stabliize sweatshirt knit; use the fusible tricot interfacing on the inside of the shirt at a 90 degree angle to the weave then use a lightweight mesh stablizer under that. The tricot interfacing really stabilizes the area of the shirt you want to embroider on and keeps the stitches from burying into the knit. That tip is on the DVD to my CE 100.

OOps I forgot to mention when I had my PE 150 I couldn't use the machine embroidery bobbin thread from Coats at Wally World. It messed up everytime. I got the big spools of ODES and never had another problem with it.

I use prewound NEBS embroidery bobbins.... they are awesome!! I rarely have trouble with NEBS, as opposed to winding my own... I buy them by the gross...

I have the PE 150 machine as well, and when I started having trouble I went to the prewound bobbins too. Mine are the SINGER ones you can get at Wal-mart and they are poly and cotton. Yes they do work in my BROTHER Sewing machine, my Brother Embroidery machine and My Brother Computerized machine. I love them!

Dorene,
Just wanted to ask you what Brother sewing machine you had. I just got a CS-8072 for Christmas and I have to buy just the bobbins that came with the machine. I tried my other Brother machine bobbins and the thread all snarled up.
Thanks,
Susie

Susie, I have the PE 150 Embroidery machine, the xl 6562 Sewing machine, the CS 8150 Compturized machine. I love them all three~! I have the serger as well. Forget the number on it. I looked last night and the bobbins are Singer but they are 100% polyester! But they sure work with all my machines. Hope this helped!

Suzie, I am home for lunch and had to go see if you had replied yet. Couldn't wait until I got off this afternnoon!
I am curious to know if you have a PE 150? If so, do youhave a SMART BOX from Simplicity for it? I do and Boy I have downloaded so many FREE designs from the internet! It is GREAT! I then set up folders to keep them all in and burned a backup CD. THE Sbox has a re writable memory card you can insert and write to it again and again. It only holds 6 at a time but this is okay with me! I usually am not working on 6 designs at one time anyways. I love it! I did all kinds of stuff for nieces and grandsons for Christmas with it. I love playing with it~ Gotta run, eat and go back to work. See ya later. Oh I checked my serger and it is a Brother Locke 1034D. Later, Dorene

Dorene,
LOL, I 'don't' have ANY machine yet. :)
I've been doing tons of research though.
I want a serger one day new. I'm VERY new sewer/quilter.
I have 3 CD's full of design and have them all in folders.
:)
Hope your afternoon is nice,

I use the pre wound nebs bobbins exclusively. I purchase them by the gross from: www.goodfortunethreads.com
My service person informed us that we must unwind 15 yards from ea. bobbin before inserting in our machine for the sensors to work properly. This really isn't a lot of thread when you get right down to it. I save it to make a thread bowl! Happy sewing!

Aren't these the same that Wal_mart sells for cheaper? I did the figures and it seems to be cheaper at WM. Am I right on this or are the ones at the good fortune place different?

Oklahommamma
I don't buy bobbins at Wal Mart; the ones I buy from Good Fortune threads are the Nebs with the clear plastic sides that are recommended for my machine. This company has worked well for me, and they always have a booth at the Novi Expo.

I generally buy my NEBS bobbins either from NEBSALES.com or from Longcreekmills.com I pay anywhere from $26 to $32 per gross, depending on whether or not I hit a sale!! LOL My first embroidery machine was the PE 150 and when I moved up to the ULT I kept the 150 for use at Christmastime.. I often have both machines running at once... I did find that the pe150 definitely worked better with the NEBS than with wind-your-owns... You might also look into Marathon threads...just do a google for Marathon thread,,, there are about 5-7 different sites for Marathon... find the one nearest you for the fastest shipping, or look around at the various sites and see which one has the best sales right now... You can get a 1000 meter mini king cone for around $1.65 on sale... that's a very good price and the thread is lovely... I use the poly as opposed to the rayon, for durability...

good luck with your 150.. have fun!!

That can be caused by thread not being properly seated in the threading path and the tension disks. Make sure that you are threading it with the presser foot up. I also usually hold my thread at the spool and give it a little tug on the other end after I put it through the tension area to make sure it's seated properly.
