I can turn out so many nice projects for older babies, but it seems every time I try a big 4 pattern for a newborn that it is wayyyyyy too big in ALL areas. So big that I cannot possibly cut it down to make it fit. I guess I will just stick with KwikSew for babies from now on. Any other companies I can trust?

You can regrade the whole pattern. It's rather pain-staking, but simply redraw every seam line, taking in 1/4" or 1/2" or whatever you need. I do wish the patterns were sized more realistically.

Laurie, I know what you mean. Newborn stuff is just huge. I never sewed much for that stage, too frustrating. I used to wait until they were 6 mos. and make up 3 mos. size.

I thought that they were just badly proportioned...legs and crotch. I never found a pattern that I really liked either.

This sounds crazy but true. When my first dd was born everything was way too big. That was 42 yrs. ago. Anyway,I ended up buying some 18" doll clothes for her. When she was 3 months old she wore the newborn. When born she was 6lbs. & 18" long. She was full term. I wonder if that would still work. At that time the those size doll clothes was just like the baby clothes & so cute. There are some real cute patterns for those dolls but not sure how they run size wise.
