I love sewing ties for my little guys. They are so quick and easy. My six year old loves picking out the fabric and getting it cut himself. The ladies at WalMart love seeing him so interested in fabric.
For my girls I love sewing very simple dresses. I love doing the puffy sleeves as they don't show mistakes as much as a normal sleeve.

Since, this is my favorite thing to sew in general, it's not too surprising that my favorite thing to sew is costumes or dress up clothes.
They're fun to make because you can let your imagination run wild and pretty much anything will go.
Last year for my niece I made several fairy princess outfits from a Simplicity pattern. For my nephew I made him a suit of "armor," cloak and tabard. They were both very fun to make.
Right now, when I finish my niece's Christmas present of doll clothes, then I'm going to start making blocks (as in cloth building blocks) for my boys who are coming. I bought a bunch of flannel when it was on sale at Joanne's.

Me too! I love doing matching pinafores, pantaloons, bonnets, etc.

I also love making dolls, doll clothing, puppets, stuffed animals, and other toys.

Cozy pj's for my boys. They can be whipped up in a hurry to their specifications. The most difficult is getting them to wear other clothes during the day.

Gags...size 10 and 12

Seriously though, I enjoy making costumes for my kids. It's fun to surprise them. I also do a lot of embroidery for them. I just put something on my son's knit winter hat for him. He thought it was so cool.

Dresses for my 4 granddaughters. Now that my oldest granddaughter is 5 she come to where I worked (JoAnn's) and picks out her pattern and the material. Sometime I do have to redirect her in the material deptartment. For Christmas I am making her a purple taffeta dress, which she picked out because it makes a nosie when she walks. :coffee:

When the granddaughters come to visit they go thru my patterns and fabric and pick out what they want. One loves dresses and the other likes pants and t's. When my own kids were little I used to love to make matching dresses and panties and added lots of trims and laces. They had lots of matching outfits too even though they were 3 years apart. My son, I made most of his t's and pants til he started school, then he wanted blue jeans like the other kids.

My daughter, now 30-years-old, and I were talking a few days ago. She said her friends were surprised she was allowed to choose her own clothes off the rack as young as three.
Her friends said they started choosing their own at about 8- or 10-years-old. "By the time I was 8," Amy told them, "I was designing my own."
She was always fun to sew for because she loved flash.
My other daughter was boring to sew for. Pants and T-shirts and always blue or green.

Love to sew for my niece; she loves everything I'll make for her. I prefer overalls. She looks adorable in them, even at 10. A few years ago, she asked me to make her an umbrella for Xmas. :whacky: Told her we'd talk about it in a few years. I wonder if she'll remember.

I love to sew anything for kids. Have only grandsons now, but if a granddaughter should happen to come along, look out world. I can't wait to have a new little girl to sew for. (Have 3 daughters and 1 son. Sewed for all of them, and still do)

When I was growing up our high school home ec teacher always had a spring style show where her students could show off their work. When I was four or five, a senior student made me a beautiful lavendar ruffled dress, slip and parasol to match for an Easter outfit. At that time it wasn't totally unheard of to use a parasol as a fashion accessory. I'll never forget that! If it hadn't been for the parasol, I don't know if I would have remembered.

My favorite thing to sew for kids? The faster, the better! Those fleece blanket panels are great! I found out that with a walking foot and a triple zigzag stitch I can make a great looking, snuggly blanket in no time! But, I've also had lots of fun making "Bear-its" for my Grandkids (and other people - including adults, too). The pattern is SO simple. Just two pattern pieces and an incredible amount of personality. (I got my pattern several years ago from "Fabulous Furs" but they don't have it anymore, and I'm not sure where else it might be available.)

What are 'Bear-Its'? Could you describe them a little further? They sound very interesting. I'm always looking for new ideas to sew.

I can't say that I have a favorite thing to sew. I always loved making my daughter dresses because she was always so proud and happy to wear them! Making shorts for my son and daughter was also fun. For a while, I made dolls for all the girls in the family. I made their outfits match something the girl loved an outfit she had...an ice skater in costume for my neice, an American Indian doll for my daughter. Those were a big hit.

Now I'm waiting for my new granddaughter to get just a teensy bit bigger (she's only a month old) so she can start to enjoy the things I'll make for her!
I did make her a blanket buddy from one of the big 4 pattern companies..can't remember which one. I've made a few of those for new babies and they are always a big hit!

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

For fun, I enjoy Halloween costumes.

For EASE, I enjoy pajamas, pants, and infant gowns. They sew up so quickly and are popular with all of my kiddie-recipients!
