Hello dears
It's me, Liana, a Romanian citizen. Maybe you've heard, most probably not, one of our outstanding citizens was killed by a US citizen who was also a diplomatic member in the US Embassy in Romania. What's all about? This guy (the American) was drunk as a lord and was driving a US Embassy car out of his duty, and crushed a taxi, while drunk, and killed a dear friend, the rocker Teo Peter. Then, he refused the blood test and the US ambassador sent him in the US, where, probably, he will be acquitted, as in the case in Italy, some years ago, when 20 people were killed and the murderer was acquitted. Think about that! What would you do if your man or one dear one would be killed this way and it would be no way someone pay for it????

Liana,

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. But please do not blame all Americans for the rotten actions of just one.

We have problems here with tourists and citizens of other countries who do not respect our laws or act like the law doesn't apply to them.

And please do not assume the man will be acquitted just because his crime happened far from here. Americans are mostly a very decent lot, and a jury will carefully consider all of the facts before making a decision.

I hope the Holiday season improves for you.

My mother was killed by a drunk driver who was never charged. When I asked questions I was told how badly the woman felt -- as if she was the victim.
I'm sorry for your loss.
You are correct. Wle things have improved some, drunk driving is not taken seriously in this country.

I'n not thinking of all Americans being like this one. I'm sure some of you had the same experience, but it's not fair, you know?? It's not legal that a guilty one escape only because he has a diplomatic immunity. Do you think it's fair???

Well...personally I think diplomatic immunity needs to go the way of the dinosaur. I don't know who thought it was a good idea, or how they convinced the legislatures to accept it, but whatever usefullness it might have is far outweighed by the awful ways it's abused.

It certainly is not fair.

DorothyL, I understand your feelings too. I don't know where we got our "blame the victim, excuse the criminal" philosophies, but I do think it's time they followed diplomatic immunity out the door and down the garden path.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks, girls
And when you think the murderer was chief of the ambassador's security... and when you think he had an accident on the same circumstances, in March, in Romania, too, but there no were human casualties... would you, as an ambassador, keep such a head security??? Even if he is a marine???

I agree. I feel it needs to be done with in all countries. Sorry for your loss.

And what can we do that those things would never happen again?

Remember, tomorrow it could be you, or me, or our loved ones, as a friend here told her mom happened.
Thanks for your care.
