Can those of you with an embroidery machine please tell me whether you use it or a regular machine for all other sewing. Thanks

Hi Kay Tee, I have two Designer 1's from Viking....I use one for embroidery and one for regular sewing. When I need a lot of embroidering done I fire them both up for it. It's no biggie to take off the embroidery unit for regular sewing. I'm so spoiled using these machines that I don't think I could stand to do regular sewing on anything else, lol.

I usually use my old 1530 to sew. The new machine is a great machine for that but I usually sew and embroider at the same time. I also need to keep an eye on the machine while it embroiders to make thread changes. To set my machine up for sewing I can either "park the embroidery unit" with a touch of a button or I can remove it. Either way is really no big deal. A lot of people I know with an embroidery/sewing machine still sew on one and embroider on the other.

I've got a Pfaff 7570 - I use it mainly for regular sewing, but it does have an embroidery unit that I also use. It's no hassle to attach / detach the unit so that you can sew regular! I got this machine because of the walking foot - which is great for regular sewing...but I also wanted to be able to use the embroidery unit whenever I felt like it. -- One machine is the economical way to go, especially considering the price of some of the top range embroidery machines...so, unless you've got the finances to support 2 machines, I'd go for one that does both well....

I have a Janome 10000 (upgraded to a 10001) that sews and embroiders.
I added a Compulock (Janome) to that last year, thinking I would use it a lot and it sits in a closet hardly used at all....
This year I added a (Janome) 6500 (quilter) and got a 300E (embroidery only for 1/2 price). I've been using the 6500 and the 300 like mad, because I can have both on at the same time, on the same cabinet....
So for me having the sewing and embroidery (which is nice, but a pain to keep changing all the feet, thread, bobbins, on the same machine when my mind changes, and it changes a lot)on different machines was the best of both worlds....

I have a stand alone embroidery machine. It gets used often but not as often as my sewing machines and sergers.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. I'll have a much better idea of what to look for when I start looking for a machine.
