Hi everyone, Here are photos of my Christmas Lap Quilt that I had spray basted instead of pin basting because I had cut my thumb pretty bad. It become loose some as I was quilting. It turned out pretty good considering. Good learning experience that's for sure. My Christmas Lap Quilt (http://community.webshots.com/album/230199895joKzbg) Thanks for looking, Susie northern NY

That's come out well Susie, I like the echo quilting around the trees. I can't quite work out how you quilted the border - is it a sort of free hand leafy pattern?

Jan and Annette, Thanks for liking my quilt. Um, I'm a pretty new quilter. This is only the second one I've quilted. That "STUFF" quilted around the border is just me trying to do free motion. You know........LOOP DA LOOP. LOL. Susie northern NY

So that's a yes then a freehand leafy thing! I've not managed to do that type of thing - on my machine I just quilt in straight lines! Did you use a walking foot or drop the feed dogs and use a darning foot? If you used the walking foot it seems to me you have to keep turning the whole thing around all the time which would drive me bonkers.
love and kisses, Jan

I don't see leaves but I guess you do. I used a darning foot and my feed dogs don't drop. I have a cover that goes over them but my needle was hitting it and breaking them so I took it off. It doesn't seem to bother anything with them up. I do put my stitch length to zero so they hardly move. Take a practice sandwiched piece and give it a whirl. I need a ton more practice as my circles (that is what they are suppose to be) are leafy........lol, Susie northern NY

Hey, come on now; everybody knows you're not supposed to finish Christmas projects before 1:30 a.m. on Christmas morning! You just posted that to make me feel bad, didn't you?! Seriously, it's really pretty! I love the way you set the non-tree blocks all this way and that. Who's the lucky recipient? |

Ticia, My goodness. Thanks so much for liking my quilt and especially the quilting. It is the second time I've tried it. I have a very inexpensive Brother XR-31 that I got at Walmart quite a few years ago. I never did anything with it except for sewing patches on knees of my boys jeans until I got interested in quilting last Oct so I'm a new sewer and quilter. Thanks again, Susie northern NY

Looks real cheery! I also checked out your quilting pages (2) and must tell you I love the pink and white curtains you made - very, very nice! You've given me an idea for my kitchen next Spring. Thanks! |

M & M's Mom, Thanks for liking my quilt and looking at my other things. Those curtains were the FIRST sewing project I ever did just after getting into quilting. I had put one quilt top together and done a wall hanging and that was the extent of my sewing that I had done. I just started last October. I did the curtains fast as my husband was fixing over an old junk room for my sewing room and I wanted the curtain and wall hanging done for the room. I like them too and thanks. Susie northern NY

For someone who has only been quilting a little over a year, you are making great progress! This is a real encouragement to us "newbies". All the terminology and patterns can be a little daunting - not to mention that one can't possibly make all the quilts one wants to in one short lifetime. It's hard to know where to begin - and hard to finish what's been started before moving on to a new project! I so love the whole experience and hope that a little over a year from now, I will have some pictures worth posting for YOU to see! (Including new kitchen curtains! :smile Thanks for answering all our comments, too! Feels like pleasant friendship. Have a great day! |

M & M's Mom, Oh you are SO right. There is so much I want to do. It seems that I have one project going and I see another and say "I've gotta do that"..........and on and on. I consider myself still a newbie but I do dig in when I love something. My pleasure to answer each one of you. It would be rude if I didn't. I'm sure you're doing great and can't wait to see your projects. Susie northern NY
