I am looking online, just seeing what is available....
I found 2 machines that look interesting and are in my price range.....
Since I'm not really sure what I need...tell me what you think

Here is the first one~Janome DE-5124 (http://allbrands.com/products/abp08010-0867.html)

Here is the second one~Janome 4623LE (http://allbrands.com/products/abp08014-0867.html)

Both have free shipping and no tax to my state!
Let me know what you think....between the 2!

Thanks!

I'd go with the 4623. You 'll love the buttonhole feature and the fact that you can vary the speed....if you sew on heavy or silky fabrics, the speed can help the sliding problem....

Both machines are very similar. Both seem to have speed controls but as for the needle up/down feature..I see where the 5124 has it but on the 4623 it said needle up only. Up/down needle feature is a great feature to have in a machine. I would check and make sure if both machines have this feature. Both of these machines have had praises by owners on PatterReview.

Kylnne, looking at the specs it seems to me they both have up down needle and I agree - it is so usefull.. I appears that the 5124 has an automatic needle threader whereas the 4623 has a needle threader included in its accessories implying that it is one of those bendy wire things that you shove through the needle. How are your eyes? I have a Janome very similar to the 5124 and having had an automatic needle threader I now wouldn't be without it. As you get older the accomodatioon starts to go - I don't know how old you are or how long you intend to keep the machine but if you are 40 or over and the lifespan is more than 5 years - get the automatic needle threader! It looks more sexy too!

I don't want to make your decision more difficult, but you may want to look at the Janome Harmony 8080 sold at Sears. I have had this machine for two years and really like it. I think it has the features of the ones you are considering plus more stitches and feet including a walking foot. It is on sale now for $299 and has free shipping If you want to consider it, it may be stocked in a Sears store. They sometimes offer an additional 10 % off early Saturday mornings. I use this machine for all kinds of sewing and quilting and use it quite a bit. It has performed well and trouble free. Whatever you decide, I like Janomes and think you will too. You can find this machine in the appliances- sewing center- electronic machines at Sears.com

I also have a computerized Janome Kenmore 19365 and I can vouch for the Janomes I own 3 of their products. Sears has several models now on sale and 2 of the computerized models similar to my machine are receiving rave reviews. I believe their mechanical machines are on sale also. The Kenmore Janomes usually cost less than the ones with the Janome name and have the same features. The features vary quite a bit among the models.

Sounds like you've gotten some good advise already. I have 2 computerized Janome machines & have never had a minutes trouble with either one. My other 3 machines are the older Singers that just won't quit. I wouldn't have a new Singer at all. My surger is a Kenmore made by Janome. Same as the 643 Janome. It's great but I do think about the Janome Compulock.Think I'm getting lazy or spoiled & want all the machines to stuff at a push of the button. I really don't feel you can go wrong with a Janome machine. The up & down button is so nice plus the needle threader. I can still thread a needle but that feature is so nice.

I never would have dreamed that buying a sewing machine would be so difficult and require so much research!
I never realized that there was so much involved!
I have went and checked out the 8080 machine on the Sears website. I even called my local store and talked to the sales guy. He tried to sell it to me over the phone.
Decisions~Decisions~
I appreciate all of the input.
As I sit here I wonder why I really need a new one...I do have my Mothers machine. I just don't have all of the goodies and gizmos that go with it.
Should I just be happy with the machine that I have or should I get a new one? Should I just make due with what I have until I get the hang of it?
Like I said...Decisions~Decisions~

The computerized Janome Kenmore is on sale now for $299 regularly $449 and has something like over 260 stitches. I believe it has more features than the 8080.

Do you know what the number for that one at Sears?? I checked Sears.com online but I'm not sure which one it is...
Do I need to go to the store to find it?

Thanks for checking into this for me~

Yipee~
I went today and picked out a sewing machine and it is sitting in my dining room floor!!!
Here is what I got!!
New Toy (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=APPL&pid=02019233000)

I am pretty excited about it!!

I had went to a local Janome dealer to get one of those and really liked the one that was shown to me...it was a DC 3019...it was on sale for 399.99, and that was great. I wanted to talk to my hubby first since that was my Xmas gift, so after I talked to him I called the place back to let them know that was what I wanted..now get this...it was 4:40, and the place closed at 5pm...I live like 5 blocks from the place. I told her I wanted to come get it and she told me I would have to wait until tomorrow!!! I thought to myself and realized that I was buying something that was pretty costly in my book, and if that was the customer service I was going to get I would take my business elsewhere....
So I did!!
And got what I did for about $120.00 less and I'm thinking it is a better deal.

Now I would be sewing however I need to finish my daughters teachers crochet scarves so I will sew tomorrow!!
Just wanted to share~

I can't believe how quickly I finished up those 2 scarves...wanted to get on to better things I suppose!! :bluewink:

I got my new machine out and read up a bit on the manual then put the thread on the bobbin, threaded that baby and just went from stitch to stitch testing them out!

This machine is great...Thanks Klynne2! It runs so smooth. Some of those stitches are so pretty!! Love the one that looks like a bow. It even has the blanket stitch...I want to use that one on some blankets!!

This was a great choice~thanks for ya'll assistance!!
