Greetings to all!

I have been reading the forum and learned lots of great info, so I am hoping that I can get some opinions on the two options in the title.

I really like the idea of having a separate machine for embroidery so that I can sew and have a design stitching at the same time, but my question is this: How does the 300E compare with the 10001 with regard to embroidery funtions and capabilities? What are the differences between them?

I have been drooling over the 10001 (and the Brother Ult2003) for a while, but it would certainly me more economical to take advantage of Janome's "Buy one, get one half off" sale on the 6500 and the 300E. I just don't know exactly what I'd be sacrificing.

Any ideas? :nc:

Thanks a bunch! :bg:

You can go to the Janome Home page and request brochures on all the machines. The are quite quick to arrive.

It is my understanding that the 6500 does not have a free arm and has many, many fewer decorative stitches than the 100001. I could be wrong here so I do hope a more knowing person arrives.

Myself, I am wondering about the 9500 but I would truly like the 10001.

Best wishes

I have all three machines. The 10001 sews and embroiders. The 300 embroiders ONLY. The 6500 is actually a quilting machine. I've had the 10000 (now upgraded to a 10001) for 2 yrs. I bought the 6500/300 on special because I got tired of always having to change the thread and bobbins to sew and embroider...it's easier to sew on one and have the other just as an embroidery machine.
I LOVE the 6500's ability to cut the thread in the machine, no thread tails. I also like the fact that when I quilt, there is NO screen for my fingers to run into and make the machine turn off what I'm doing. I like the 300 because I use it to embroider sitting on the same cabinet.

I like my 10000, but for me all the changing back and forth got on my nerves and kept me from sewing as much as I wanted...the 6500/300 combo is MUCH easier...

Now on the 300...you use flashcards (like for your digital camera) small ones 16mb, because you can only store patterns on folder #5. (100 patterns more or less.) You can buy the Janome cards and they fit/work. But you can't download directly to the machine like you can the 10001. The 300 is slower than the 10001, but you can use all the hoops A,B,C,F, giga that you can on the 10001. The 300's screen is smaller and not in color like the 10001.
There are also some built-in's on the 300 and the 6500....If you have cards for the 10001, they will work in the 300.

I'd also recommend a BIG thread stand if you get the 10001 or the 300. A 10 spool holder, that way you don't have to keep changing all the thread on the same spindle.
Just my 2 cents worth...

Fleur, Thanks...I just requested the brochures for all three machines.

Chrys, that is exactly the kind of input I was hoping for to help me decide. I really haven't done much quilting, but I do a LOT of home dec stuff including some upholstery projects from time to time, so the 6500 appeals to me because it seems like it would handle the heavier stuff pretty well. I am starting to dabble a bit in apparel (mostly for my 2 year old granddaughter), but I have a Janome 744D serger with a free arm and an old Bernina 740E (grrrrr!) to fill in if needed.

As for the 300E, it doesn't sound like I'd be giving up anything that I can't work around. How do you feel about the big color screen on the 1001 compared to the smaller b/w screen on the 300? Does it make much difference to you in day to day use?

Thanks so much! :bg:

The screens don't mean much to me because, I'm one of 'those' people, who pick out their own colors and don't rely on whats on the pattern already.
The 300's screen is Ok..I wish it had the bigger one, but the colors don't mean much to me. It might be different for those who rely on the colors that others use...but theres always the books, printouts, etc. that have color charts for the embroideries....

yeah...you'll like the 6500 for all the heavy duty stuff...I embroidered a patch for someones book bag a couple of weeks ago...I used the 300 and then sewed it on leather, with my 6500, all in the space of about 45 mins....No slipping, NO problems....The only problem is that if you're gonna do garments, there is NO free arm on the 6500....it'll only make a difference with certain things like sleeves..or tight things....

I own the Compulock too..but since I got the other 2...the serger sits in the closet....and since I got the 300...the 10000 is 'sitting' too.... :re: at least until I get my new spool holder...I have a 5 thread one, but it's too small for most things...
