I have been practicing free motion quilting and in my last attempt - making a picnic blanket my marking pencils would either not show up or the marks would rub off before I got to them. So...o I used my expensive water soluble stabliser which worked like a charm. Now on another group related to my machine it has been suggested that Glad Press and Seal is good for marking out your pattern and then pressing to quilt top. I just want to know if any one here as tried and did it stay stuck down etc. The product is not available down in my part of the world but if it works I will find a way of getting some :)
I have to say that I had so much fun doing the quilting I just used a 1.5m piece of quilting fabric with frogs and a lot of what looked like bamboo type leaves and fleece for a backing all bought in a closing down sale. I quilted some frog out lines and some leaves - some of which had an abstract look. I think i feel another addiction coming on.
thanks

Skye,
I have used Glad Press and Seal just as a test a few weeks ago and it worked great for free motion and it even worked with using my walking foot. The only thing I can imagine is it becoming tedious to mark the wrap for every design you want but you have to mark it with something unless you do it just out of your head. :)

Thanks Susie,
Was it easy to trace a pattern onto ? I presume that it is a bit thicker than ordinary Glad cling film so easier to handle. When I was telling my DH about the press and seal he said it sounded a bit like Duraseal the paper backed plastic that the kids here use for covering their school books. That stuff is real sticky I will experiment after Xmas. The needle might get gunked up.
It would be great if I was good enough to just go for it without a pattern - I need a heap more practice:smile:

Skye,
Like I said, I only have tried it once but plan to use it again. It stayed still. It is sticky on the back and yes thicker. Quite a bit thicker.
Get some and give it a whirl on a practice sandwiched piece.
On the website it says: Press 'n Seal wrap is available nationally at mass merchandisers such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Kmart, local grocers, and drug and club stores for a suggested retail price of $2.99 for a 75-foot roll.
I am practicing as I want to get MUCH better before I tackle my VERY first quilt that I made which is KING SIZED.
Here it is:

Susie that quilt top is beautiful - a lot of work. I can understand that you want to practice before tackling that. I find dealing with the bulk and getting things to move a challenge some times. I did buy some of those cotton gardening gloves with the little rubber dots on and they work really well
I live in New Zealand and Press and Seal is not available here hence all the questions before I ask a friend to send me some.
I would be interested in what patterns you decide to use on your top. I find that decision a real time comsumer
Thanks for the info

Skye,
Thanks for liking my quilt. Not only was it my FIRST and KING sized it was a group mystery quilt. :)
I'm so new at this that I don't have a clue how to answer you in your question of what patterns I would decide to use on my top.
I've only been quilting a year and only have quilted two quilts and both were free motion and some stitch in the ditch.
I do want to practice some designs as that is what I want to put on those big snow ball blocks on the lavender quilt.
I guess there are other things that people mark with like soap slivers and even a #2 pencil but I would test that first to see if it comes out,
