Well it finally arrived here around 4 AM today, and has not stopped since, all Lake Effect snow. The temp has dropped to 7* with a wind chill of -20*. They had started closing schools for Monday already tonight.
They say we are to have more snow off and on all week long with another front moving in sometime on Thurdsay. Guess we will have a White christmas after all :bg:
How's the weather there?

First real frost of the season finally arrived! Seems weird to scrape the car- it is normally colder here in Jan/Feb than Nov/Dec. We look like we are set for another green Christmas. My daffodils and tulips are starting to show above the ground but they will just stop now. I really should have cut the grass last weekend but it was too wet.

We've seen some pics of your traffic problems in Ohio (ouch). Looks like we might get a little taste later this week. The weathermen are beginning to sing "White Christmas". I'm glad that school lets out today for the holidays because I don't like my kids driving in bad weather.

We have about a foot of snow on the ground here. We are under another winter storm warning with 6 to 12 inches of snow expected by noon tomorrow. Thursday or Friday another possible storm with lots of snow expected. It also has been very cold here. We have a weather station installed here at the house and yesterday we had a wind chill of -50 below. Brrrr..... Too cold for me. It needs to warm up a little in order to enjoy the snow. I like to snowshoe and we also are snowmobilers. But, when I don't have to go out, I stay in where it is warm and work on all of my crafts. That is my favorite winter past time.
Happy sewing/quilting/crafting

We have the same amount here. I don't think we are under any warnings right now. But it is blowing. I'm waiting to see what tree will go down next. Have alot of very old trees on my street. It was 4 degrees at 3 AM. and is only us to 10 now. Guess I will stay in the house and make something.

It's 11* degrees here now. I saw on the news last night that there was a 80 car pile up on I-80 just east of the Ohio state line in Pa. They said that it was snow related. Those kind of problems no one needs, I just hope that everyone came out of it alright.
I was outside a bit ago and we have about a foot of the white stuff on the ground and it's suppose to warm up to a WHOLE 20* degrees by Tuesday!!!!!
I haven't hd a chance to talk with my daughter yet, she lives and works right on the snow-belt here in Ohio, and has to drive a bus on back rural roads to pick up MMRD's and take them to their training centers. She has to pull into some of these rives and has gotten the bus stuck in the past where they have had to send out the BIG tows that they use for semi's to get her out. She's not the only one that has had this happen to though. But it's in the contract with the county MMRD that this is a sevice that they will provide since some of these people are wheelchair bound.

Wow, you guys are making me SUPER jealous!!! We got 5" in the high country like last week, but nothing since then. It's been warming up during the day and melting off so there's really not much left in town except the banks from the snowplows  My parents & little sis are coming in on Christmas Day for their annual ski trip, but there's only a 32" base on the mountains, so lots of boulders and rocks not covered...eeek!

We woke to snow this am. Had about 2 inches. Very cold temps for here also, in the teens. Roads were icy and saw lots of accidents on the way to work. By Thursday it is supposed to be near 70. No wonder everyone is getting sick here.

Hey Paroper,

Have you been hit with that snow yet???? They have already put us under "warnings" starting Weds into Thurs for HEAVY snows. Bet we only see an inch if any.

Hey, did you see where they have. as of this past weekend, suspended one of the starting QB's for OSU. Tressell has not made anything public about what and why the kid was let go. I guess the NCAA is also involved with the mess. The kid was the better of the two freshman starting QB's. He is from Cleveland and the other one is from Massillion, just west of Canton, Ohio- the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Massillion is also where Paul Brown is from ( the founder of the Browns and the Bengels) ANYWAYS....... lools like OSU will win :bluesad:

Gotta agree with you SewHappie! Looks like OSU will definitely win! :bg: They are predicting snow beginning after midnight here in Oklahoma City but we'll proably only get a few flakes. However, you never know here. The worst thing that happens is black ice when we get a skif of snow and then it melts and the temperature plummets. Temperature is supposed to be in the single digits by Thursday. If nothing else, we'll have a cold Christmas. Light up the fireplace -- I'm staying indoors. I've already shopped for Christmas dinner for DH and I so I'll be spending a lot of time in my sewing room, hopefully. However, I'll be perched in front of the big screen on the 29th. Go Pokes!!!

Have we got snow. Sunday and Monday it snowed all day and night. Cleaned the driveway out on Monday. This morning (Tuesday) I went out to get the paper and had drifts pass my knees. So when out, got Mr. Snow Blower out of his house and started blowing snow again. The drifts were taller than my snow blower. My husband said it was real stormy all night. We are suppose to have storms Thursday, Friday and Christmas day. Glad I'm not going any where. Have a Merry Christmas.

We got just a dusting this morning. It is suposed to end this morning and continue pretty cold this afternoon. My daughter came home from work this morning and said that there were cars off and wrecks all over I-40 (it's Oklahoma..what can I say?)

I really hate that you've lost a quarterback! I think that if two teams get this far ir is fairer if they meet on equal grounds. Not only does it make for a better game, it gives the winner more bragging rights! I can't wait for this weekend!

We got a sleet and snow warning this morning...by this afternoon, it was maybe some flurries...tonight it's maybe it'll rain a bit....hahahahaha...only in FL will the thought of snow make EVERYONE talk about the weather, otherwise it's pretty much ignored...(unless it's the new to FL people going, why is it so HOT and humid...I didn't know it got cold in FL...what do you mean it rains all the time....(they don't mention the bugs :whacky: ) )
Today it was 64 and raining most of the day....with our usual tornado warnings..(hopefully they'll stay away from populated areas...)

Hey did you hear about the sink hole in Deltona ??? man whata mess that is...those poor people...last I heard it was nearly 300ft (around) and growing. It's already eaten the power lines and one house....20 others evacuated...

Boy did we get snow. It started after lunch yesterday and is just tapering off now. The wind is pretty strong and blowing around big time. We were completely snowed in today, many roads were closed and people were warned to stay home if they didn't have to go out. This advice was for everyone from Windsor, ON right past Toronto and on it's way to Ottawa and Montreal area. Hubby hurt is back and foot and we weren't sure how we were going to get the car dug out when we looked out and saw our neighbour blowing our driveway out! Bless him. So nice to have good neighbours. I baked him some cookies and took him over $10 and he was appreciative of that. This snow has to end. My dtr and family are driving down from Ottawa tomorrow. Fingers and toes are crossed - very painful

Merry Christmas and/or Season Greetings to all

Forgot to mention one thing. I heard on the news that a man, despite the fact that roads were snow covered and slippery, decided to pass a police cruiser this morning and hit a transport truck head on. What was he thinking? He actually survived but please, all of you, drive carefully!

"DIG,DIG,DIG, Shovel,Shovel,Shovel"..... Oh HI!!!! :dave: Guess I did find my way out from under ALL THIS WHITE STUFF!!!!!!!!!! I'm lovin' every single second of it too!!!!!!!!
Well lets see, it started here yesterday around 9AM with HEAVY HEAVY snow, and just kept on coming. When I checked last night at 10:30 we had 27" of the white stuff. Got up today with the sounds of FREEZING rain hitting the sides of the house. Drive was nothing but a sheet of ice, DS had to go to work at the Ski Resort in this mess.
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport had airlines cancelling flights on the average of 20-30 per hour. They ran out of de-icer for the planes, until they get some in later tonight they are not letting any planes out. When a plane lands they are towing them into the terminal so they can keep the airport open without having to worry about one going of the the taxi way. The terminal is so packed with people waiting to leave or to be picked up that they are asking everyone to stay out of the area UNLESS you are picking someone up and then they are sending them to a set area.
The roads here are a total mess, they are plowing only the main emergency roads. The rest of the roads might get hit sometime this weekend.
My girlfriends hubby works for the neighboring county and is living in his truck just trying to get roads open out in farm country.
Shopping Malls, Government Offices, Churchs, Schools and just about anything else that was to be opened yesterday and today are closed. The State Highway Patrol declared a State of Emergency and ordered that they started sending people home around 11AM yesterday!!! AAA was telling people that there was a 3-4 hour wait just to be towed out of a ditch.
The snow/rain has stopped here as of a few hours ago, BUT now the temps are dropping very fast, we have had problems with rain all day and no where for it to go, so now it is freezing on the roads, and now causing accidents for rush hour. The winds are supposed to pick up and kick in the Lake Machine, which means MORE WHITE STUFF for the next 2-3 days.
Trees are dropping branches left and right due to the freezing rain and so many are without power, they are transporting Seniors to local police, fire, and hospitals with generators just to keep them safe.
we did have a break in the clouds about 30 minutes ago and did see the sun, but it has since gone back to cloud cover and is starting to drizzle again.

Magot,
Ohio State University and Oklahoma State University are playing football in a College Bowl, usually sponsored by some big corporation. Remember our football here is different from what you call football there.

Paroper,
They have been having one heck of a time with the newer players of the teams doing things that they should not be doing, and are now getting caught and paying the price for it. We have heard bits here and there that this may be the case. For the NCAA to get involved it has to be something along those lines. I will also be wearing my Scarlett and Gray and cheering the "BUCKS" all the way!!!!!!! To bad you aren't from Michigan or I would sing you the lovely song we sing to them!!!!!! It goes to the tune of, The Ol' Gray Mare.
Well anyways, I hope that this finds all well and safe and most of all MERRY CHRISTMASand love to all of you. I cherish my friendship with each and every one of you!!!!!!!

It's almost 70 degrees and sunny here in Oklahoma City also. My Bradford Pear tree in the front yard has buds on it. Poor mislead thing, it will probably freeze again this year. We'll probably get walloped with snow and ice in January and February.

Between the rain yesterday and the melting snow we now have FLOOD WATCHES posted!!!!! The creek two blocks away from us is right at the banks, any more rain and it IS over it's banks. This is the craziest weather I have ever seen. They are calling for snow again by the end of the week.

We have ice. after 3 or 4 days of beautiful weather. Tonight it is raining and freezing as fast as it hits the ground. Sewhappie, I have been in Ohio when it is flooding. A couple of years ago, in July, we were going to Celina (my husband is from there) thru Indiana. We hit flooding in Indiana right before we would cross into Ohio. Had to back track several times before we found where we could get into Ohio, than had to detour around areas just to get to Celina. What usually takes us 7 hours to get there from home, it took us 10 hours. And it rained for most of the week we were there. My husband said he had never seen it fllood that bad there.

Last spring was the worst we have seen it flood around here in 25 years!!!!!
The news was talking about HUGE ice chucks floating out to Lake Erie from the Chagrin River ( east of Cleveland) yesterday and today. Last year the ice flooded the same River and destroyed millions of $$$$ of property and boats that were doecked and sealed for the winter months.
They are saying that we could have more snow by the middle to end of this week!!!!!

What crazy weather. Last night before I went to bed I went out to get something out of the car. The car was frozen with about an inch of ice. The street was ice. And I could hear it raining most of the night. This morning about 9:30 I went out to get the paper. I touched the car and the ice fell off. The street was just wet. I loooked to see the temperture and it was 42.Crazy weather.

Gales, flooding in Carlisle (Cumbria) and more gales. Around here we have gales. o how I love wind. It's flat around Canbridge, the wind blows, but to make a change it's hurtling over from Ireland instead of reaching us unimpeded from the icy wsates of Siberia. So it's a relatively warm wind=wet. so, windy then.
Around the coast there were force 12 gales sort of all down the west coast.

The local weathermen are saying that this is what they call " The Pineapple Express". These hit every 25-30 years. It "seams" about right, I remember some hum-dinger storms when I was a "young girl" back in the 60-70's period.
It has something to do with the winds coming in from Hawaii and Siberia and joining together over the ocean before making landfall.

Did you see where a power plant in Alaska is gone, they are habing trouble getting to the people up there because of a blizzard there.

The weather people here are calling it a El Nino year. Whatever that means. Something about the set up in the Pacific causing the weather all over the world to act up. That also mean bad Hurricane seasons. :bluesad: :bluesad: I hope not.

MIL.

They had a story on the news tonight about the Tuscarawas River, not far from your friend. They are having to open up some of the dams to let water off of the areas that are under water. This is now causing areas further down river to flood. My DD's future In-laws live right on the River in Gnaddenhuten, Ohio. They area saying that this is the only way that they can control the flooding in this area.
Right now we are being soaked again with MORE RAIN!!!!!!!! :bang: :bang:

If anyone is interested you can go to:
www.wkyc.com go to the video clips about the Tuscarawas River and county of the same name.

Ohio has been given State of Emergency Status by the President as of today.

My DIL is suppose to be keeping in touch with her. I emailed her and she didn't email me back. She has lots of little neices and nephews who live close to where she is and I know she must be worried about them with this rising water. It's so dangerous not knowing weather to run or stay put. I will pray for all of you I know how we feel when the hurricanes come close to us. It's not a nice feeling to think everything you're gathered in a life time you could lose in it all in a days time. Everytime we run from the storms I take my pictures with me and things that are sentimental, I know if it floods I'll lose it all. I have no pics of my husband when he was young for that very reason. They were poor and what little pics they had taken was taken away in Hurricane Betsy which hit here in 1965, most of this Parish, (County) went underwater for the same reason they are diverting the water where you are with the dams. They didn't want to flood downtown New Orleans, so they blew the levees (dikes) on our side of the river so we would get the water and New Orleans would be spared. :bluesad: Thanks for letter me know what's going on up there. I thought about her all day today. I'll get my DIL to try and call her again tomorrow. They are on the same phone plan so she can call her for free.
