Congrats on being a new Aunt soon. My niece is due to have a baby around April as well. What are you going to sew? I need some ideas. I want to sew a bunch of stuff for her. I'm not sure what the sex of the baby is.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Jada and Kris,

I had a new grandbaby born in Sept and one that will be born in Feb I have lots of experience on sewing for baby. April is sliding into summer so I'd suggest some little flannel blankets, burp pad made out of diapers, little summer outfits, bibs, diaper hangers, hangers to hang on the bed to hold powder and such, bumper pads, carry all covers, there is also some bootie patterns on the net if you look for them. Sleepers are cute and I made a quilt for my baby girl with all the grandparents that are deceased. I put an angel in the middle and the grandparents pics all around the angel. I used the fabric sheets by June Taylor. They come 3 in a pack and come in white and off white, get the color fast ones they cost more but they won't fade with washings. All you do is print out the pic on the sheet, tear off the back when it comes out the printer and then run cold water on the sheet and lay flat to dry. Then sew it in the quilt as you please. You can do it with any pics don't have to be deceased people. When she opened it at the shower everyone had a fit over it. It was pretty I have to say. I also made a lamp for her. You can buy the shades to cover at Hobby Lobby or a craft store. There is a template that comes with them so you know exactly how to cut it out. I embroideied Winnie the Pooh on it and trimed it with rick rack and it came out cute. I'll think of more just give me time. I'm making a baby dress right now for the summer time. Mine were all girls I had to sew for. Just some ideas.

Two good books to get:

1. Kwik Sew for Baby- I just got mine and it has patterns for most any clothes that you would want to make for a baby, very good instructions and lots of helpful advice. I'm very much looking forward to using it.

2. PS I Love You 3- I bought that when a friend was expecting and it has lots of cute quilts to make as well as instructions for making many useful nursery items.

Kwik Sew Baby Book is a great basic book for making baby clothes from as long as you ignore the 70's style pictures! :dave: Another good pattern to look at are Burda patterns. Especially now that they have beginner patterns for those of us who are not really advanced sewers and the fit of the clothes are pretty accurate.
