I don't have much of a family....and my neighbor across the street has been helping me with my 'mystery stereo' problem...(no it's NOT resolved...it's time for court) Her husband left her and her 2 kids 3 yrs ago, with a 6 yr old van (now 9 and dying by inches) a mortage (on a house now damaged by hurricane Ivan) and he's decided to quit his job, so no support...(he's a lovely person.... ) I decided to help out a bit...I got her a kitchen faucet for a Christmas/thank you present...I'm a practical person and her faucet leaks like a sieve..it's a small something, useful, and something I can install myself....I wish I could do more....(where is that lottery when you need it....???) I also decided that the humane society was my charity this year..( I usually go the Salvation Army Tree route, but thought I'd be different....) So dogs and cats (at a no kill shelter) got LOTS of things for the holiday.... Anyone else do charitable things to make your Christmas better ??? ( I'm always so darn sad that anything that keeps my mind off 'things' during the holidays is always better.) Chrys

The old lady next door lost her husband this past year and he was a keen gardener. I've tried throughout the year to sneakily weed and cut her grass when she is out (she keeps trying to pay me - I wish she wouldn't, she slips me the occasional bottle of wine now from her husbands wine celler - she doesn't drink) We like to make sure that any singles we know are housed within a family on christmas day. The tap was a good, practical gift Chrys, it gets harder to do things for people as they assume you want something in return instead of simply being neighbourly. I find it hard talking to my neighbours as they rush into the house and pull up the drawbridge. They have lived there for 3 years now and I know their names - that's it! love and kisses, Jan

You ladies are wonderful. I haven't done much. We did help one child out financially this Christmas so kids would be looked after. Other than that, we have an old couple hubby has adopted. Their only son passed away and we have something for them each Christmas. We also shovel their driveway and walk when the snow comes.

Well, I have a kid in college, so I "donate" gas and grocery money frequently... For the past few years I have organized a Santa Visit with my co-workers to UCSF Children's Hospital. We raise the money to purchase the toys in house, and then a small group of us go up and deliver them. It's tough for me to see little ones so sick, but it is great seeing their reaction to Santa. We gave out over 90 stuffed toys this year. |
