Hello, I'm new here to this forum, as well as to machine-sewing. I recently hand-sewed a cloak for myself, and that turned out well. I just got a sewing machine for Christmas. My sister gave me a yard of Hello Kitty fabric(45" wide), and I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what can be done with it. Here is a photo of the fabric, in case that would help. http://themary.aaquaria.com/pgd11.jpg Thanks, Mary |

My sister probably got it at Walmart, she works in the craft department there. |

I made my daughter a scarf out of fleece with that same print. You can make a purse with one yard. Or a pillow. Dorothy |

Hello MR and welcome! My first thought was purse lining, especially for a young lady. |

A yard can make one or two pair of pants for little ones depending on how big they are. You could also make a mini skirt for yourself as long as you are not as round as I am. You could make a throw pillow. The best thing I find a yard of fabric can do, is sit on the shelf waiting for inspiration to come. I often buy a yard or two or three of fabric just 'cause I like it and it may sit for a year or more before I figure out what to do with it.

Thanks for your suggestions I don't happen to have any little ones, or even know any really. I think I may try a skirt... I found this site on modifying an existing skirt, but the design would probably work for making one as well I assume. http://gothfashion.info/panels.html I guess I can always sketch the pieces I need on the back of the fabric first to see if there's enough What's a good length for a skirt? I rarely ever wear skirts. |

That is a really pretty pattern. I don't know if I would use that adorable fabric though, once you cut the peices you won't be able see your Hello Kitties very well, just pieces of them. Maybe you could find some similar Asian fabric in black that would accentuate what you already have. If that doesn't work just send it to me and I'll add it to my extensive Hello Kitty collection. Well... I messed up a lot and it ended up a bit shorter than originally planned for but I thought I'd share a pic anyway. I also made matching underwear, but I figured I'll just model those for the boyfriend. I added a pocket in front that's long enough for paintbrushes, pencils, etc. There's also a tiny pocket on the back of the underwear, because I'm weird like that. http://themary.aaquaria.com/DSCN1006.JPG |

Skirt looks great, well done! I think that flirty nature of Miss Kitty suits it being short - perhaps the matching undies give a feeling of security!

Thanks I've never made a skirt before. I think I need lots more practice. My friend is going to walk with me to a fabric store later. |
