New Years Eve is Friday night. How do you all celebrate? We never did do much for New Years. Sometimes we have a big meal on New Years Day but that is about the extent of it. When we were younger we stayed home with the kids and watched old movies, now the kids are gone and we still stay home and watch old movies. MaryW

Mary we usually do that too, stay home and watch the ball drop at Time Square and Jax Brewery here in New Orleans but this year we are going to a party. I don't drink alcohol so I'm always the designated driver when we go places that they serve alcohol. I don't mind, I get to watch all the fools make a*ses out of theirselves and have a case of "I don't remember"'s the next day. But I remember........... |

We occasionally get invited to a friends party( that is she is not an occasional friend but doesn't have partis every year) These are fancy dress affairs - we have been men in black,Romans, Asterix the Gaul.. mostly, I like to go to bed... love and kisses, Jan

I usually watch the New Year in by myself as DH seldom stays awake after 10:00 p.m. I think he's afraid he'll turn into a pumpkin or something if he does stay up past his bewitching time of 10:00 p.m. Patsy Patsy

My husband goes to bed before 8pm...so I spend most of my time alone. (thats why I'm on here so much...oh well..keeps me off the streets ) I'll be spending my New Years eve alone too...as always. I'll probably go to bed about 11, but be kept awake by the noise and fireworks. (for some strange reason down here in the south they think fireworks are the thing to do, no matter what the holiday...even Easter....weird..) Chrys

Mary! What ARE you implying! Tony likes to be asleep by 9:30! My Mum and Dad used to make us stay up to watch the tele with a Scottish New Year program and then we'd all have to sing Auld Lang Syne - that famous song to which nobody knows the words - before being allowed to stumble blearily into bed. Sort of puts me off staying up for the New Year. We did do the Millenium with fireworks though and no doubt ,as where you are Chrys, they will be banging away into the wee small hours. love and kisses, Jan

SUSIE! I'm scandelised! It's 3:46am here and I'm going back to bed! (Couldn't sleep - hot flush, amuses Tony, he goes to bed with a woman in PJ's, socks and a hot water bottle and wakes up to a naked sweat bucket.)It's a weird life but I like it.
love and kisses, Jan

I'm so glad to see that I have just as boring as New Year's Eve as everyone else!!!! ( Or maybe not???) I too will be spending it alone, hubby doesn't stay up past 9 P.M. and the kids are usually out with friends. Hey Mary, we should do a "chat" that night so we could spend the New Year with friends!!! Not sure what time it would have to start as to include everyone as much as possible though. |

Hey Sewhappy, Are you still snowed under? My little friend from up there was shocked to see we had snow, a white Christmas at that but it's all gone and it's in the 60's for highs here now. It must be a thing with hubby's going to bed early. Mine is usually in the bed by 8:00, 8:30 at the latest. But he's off Saturday so we will party till 12 and then come home and retire. This is rare for us to go out on New Years, usually it's me calling all my kids on the phone and wishing the new year in that way. Jan you better behave yourself. ROFL Is hot flashes really what's making you sweat? I'm gone |

YUP!!! We still have alot of the "white stuff" on the ground here. Today it got up to 27 degrees!!! What a warm up. The snow was just falling off the roof as I was reading your post. We have about 15 inches of it in the front yard with frozen ice on top of that. Our city is very low on funds to be able to really clean the streets, so needless to say our street is not very clean. The main streets are not that great either!!!!!! My DD is not having to drive in this mess, she broke her toe the day before Christmas and is in a walking cast, which is not approved by the state to drive in. Plus her job requires her to have to be able to push wheelchairs in and out of the bus which now she can't do. Has to go to the Dr and be cleared by him before she can go back to work. We have a WalMart, near DD, that has not been able to re-open since Christmas because of the snow!!! They have flat roofs and this one store has so much snow on the roof that it is putting a strain on it. I think they said it has 2 feet of snow and frozen ice on top of that. They can not get up to it to get it cleaned off due to surrounding stores, and are worried that if they added the weight of people on it that it will give. Guess they better rethink the design of flat roofs in a snow belt area!!!!! DAH! |

We usually do nothing on New Years. For 1999/2000 I rode around in a cop car all night for work (reporter). What a drag. We didn't even get a drunk. Quiet little village. This year my husband wants to drive my daughter home to New York. I'd just as soon wait until the next day myself. Lot better conditions -- less drunks on the road. Dorothy |

We don't do anything either. But I am the one in bed by 9:00, I might make it until 12 that night. The last two days have been kind of warm here. Snow is melting off roof.

We are just staying home & have for years now. It used to be fun to get together with friends & family, we'd dance the night away but no getting looped. Now everyone is afraid to get out on the roads even during the day. We stay up as a rule until the new year comes in but who knows this year. I keep wondering where this year has gone so fast. I wish everyone a real happy New Year & the best one ever. |

I think I am gonna stay up sewing and ring in the new year with a brand new dress or something for myself. Hubby can stay up building his model rockets. We might watch a movie too. We don't really do much for the holiday but can't go to sleep because our neighbors are all out in the street until at least 1:00.

This year I'll be with my special friend and we'll probably just discuss all the goals we've completed the last year and what we hope to complete the year ahead of us. I know I’ve done so much this year, just thinking about it amazes me. |

Not sure what we will do this year. Usually,we sit around and nap till about 11:45, wake up for the ball to drop then go to bed. This year will probably be some version of that. DH brought home cheese and salsa for a chip dip for that night. I might make more egg nog. My DD1 is in Minnesota on a Girl Scout Destination-Dogsledding/Skiing. My sister would like us to be together as her ex. is getting married that day, her daughter is with him and her son has to work (in another town). She and my dad will be together as my Mom died Dec. 17. It has been a strange season for us. Happy New Year to everyone!!! Hope 2005 brings time for all the sewing and crafting we like to do. Peggy |

sewhappie, i am in central vermont. i work close to th e Jct of Interstates 91 and 89. It is fun when the snow hit and people are confused what interstate they are on when the call in to report that someone in a 4wheel drive suv is off the road. They tell you they are on 91 at mm2 and seeing exit 1 and you ask are you sure you are on 91????? since that is at the other side of the state. I love Vermont......NOT I love my little town though. |

I remember as a child we would be coming home from Maine, camping vacations, and would be going to visit the relatives in Vermont. We would be on the new Interstate system and then it would just stop and go back to a old dirt one lane road with an old Hermits hut along the side of the road!!!!!! We would go for a few miles of this and then be back on the Interstste again. I'm sure that by now the old hermit has died and the state got the land to finish the highway, but it was just to funny back then to see it. That went on for years. I remember going to Brattleboro to the old store there and getting pickles out of the barrel and smoked cheese and crackers to eat on our trip back to Ohio. |

I agree with you Mary, I have been to many states and Vermont is the most beautiful that I have seen. Tenneesse is next on the list. Followed by any eastern seaboard state. |
