I was visiting the janome web site and they have a sale if you by the mc4900qc you'll get the cover pro: it said that its a cover hem .How is this different from a serge?

A cover hem has straight stitches on top of the garment hem and a serged stitch with a deco look on the underside. This can be reversed, with the deco look on top of the fabric if one likes. You find this stitch on some Tee shirts and knits bought in the store. Some sergers are combo machines that have serged stitch programs and also do coverhem. Usually a cover lock also does a chain stitch. The chain stitch can be used in garment construction or for deco look. Janome has 2 new coverlock machines and I believe they only do coverhem and not serged programs. Also one of the Janomes I believe only does the one double seam coverhem. I believe the newest Janome does the triple seam coverhem also. I prefer a serger that does both the narrow and wide double seam and also the triple seam cover hem. The new Janomes look like nice coverlocks. I own 3 Janome products and I can vouch for their quality. One of my Janomes is a basic serger but I also have a Pfaff serger and an Elna 744 coverlock/serger.
