Hello... I am 24 married and from canada.... i got a quick question.. I have been away from sewing for a few years and slowly getting back into the act... and loveing it. Anyways.. is it better to make a tester garment... before you make the good one... the reason.. i ask is because i tried to make a pair of pj bottoms and they look great until i try it on... and so not fited right.... so should i make a tester out of cheap stuff... and then work from that.
Thanks for the time to read my question...

Karen, it's always a good idea to make a sample garment to test the fit when trying a new pattern. However, you may want to make a basic sloper of different pieces (blocks) after you have perfected the fit. Then lay that against the pattern when cutting your fabric. It will cut down on frustration. Be sure to take accurate measurements. A fitting book like "Fit for Real People" or "Fast Fit" will help resolve those issues. I think the #1 reason people give up on sewing garments is that the fit isn't correct. Commercial patterns do not fit every body shape or size. People often buy their RTW size instead of their actual measurement size. It's a lifelong learning process. Happy Stitching!
