Hi everyone I'm planning my next petticoat project and I want to get as authentic results as possible, a lot like this: http://s77289972.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1541d91497b6f3a/shopdata/0040_50=27s I've made petticoats before, but I always just left the hem serged and didn't use binding on the tiers. Does anyone have any tips they could give me on binding the hem of the petticoat and the tiers? I have no idea where to begin! Thanks! |

Hi clairefaerie and welcome to Sew Whats New. Your link did not work for me. I have seen the layers hemmed with ribbon before they are attached to the rest of the petticoat. MaryW

Ahh! Sorry about that. Should have known better than to post the picture link. Here's one from ebay that has exactly what I'm trying to get: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11532&item=5350750779&rd=1 I had considered just sewing ribbon onto the edges, but I use coarse netting that might snag any stockings and such and be a bit uncomfy, so I think my only option is binding. Can this be done with regular ribbon? I use straight strips of matierial to make the tiers, without any curves. |

Short answer - yes... 1. make sure the ribbon is wide enough 2. a light ribbon - heavy will drag the fluffiness of the petticoat 3. don't stretch either the net or the ribbon as you sew 4. when sewing metres and metres of petticoats - take a break - so that you continue to sew straight |
