Hi everyone. I just rec'd. a clothing mail order catalogue for spring fashions. Lots of closely fitted striped shirts this year and V neck tops. Skirts are just above the knee and feminine. Linen tops and pants for spring in basic pale colours of khaki, beige, white, etc.

I love linen, might whip up a couple of pair. I have a Sandra Betzina pattern I like for pants with a V neck top. :bluesmile Striped shirts are not my favourite but my daughters are wearing them.

Come on Mary --
I still have to finish my coat! I should do that today. Just in time -- winter weather is expected this week.

I don't sew much in the way of winter garments. I have tons of sweaters and wool pants. So................get that coat done.

Nah, but it sure helps to beat the winter blues to sew something pretty and cheerful for yourself for spring. Has everyone noticed that a lot of tops and jackets have a flower made from the same fabric pinned on? Is this a fad just for here or is it everywhere?

Well Mary --
I have a new coat!!
It is really a cape. A teal and black tiny hounds tooth wool with a very cool lining. It has a collar and 2 beautiful black, white and gold glass buttons. One button is square and the other a triangle. It will look great with the leopard skin hat my sister-in-law gave me for Xmas.
I am very happy with it.

I will be using up stash to make t shirts & blouses for work. also some light weight pants as i work in a school that is not air conditioned & the kitchen can get warm. Nothing fancy though as I have stained or bleached quite a few of my clothes already. I am getting better now though about not splashing the bleach as I pour it into the buckets & not holding the food racks against myself.

Mary --
By preping I meant got it all ready to lay out. In this case, just prewashing. And I get together the pattern and all the notions I'll need -- or list the ones I have to buy. I make sure I have enough interfacing and whatever. Then I put it on a special shelf where it sits until I get around to it. But It's started as far as I'm concerned and I'm the only one that counts in MY sewing room.

I have some hemp I want to make up. I love the fabric but it fades quite quickly. The dye just doesn't age very well. The fabric is nice and wrinkles less than linen.

Would prewashing with a bit of vinegar help it hold the color, Mary?
