OK. I gave up on the Singer because, all praise is due to God, my brother got my grandmothers old KEnmore working (which was the top of the line back when). I have the tention balanced and it seems to be running well, but I'm having two problems:

1) the stiches are a little uneven in length
2) I can't seem to get the zig zag stich to work and I have tried various widths (I know I have it set right because I remembr from the Singer machine, thank God)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Ummanas if you post your question on the Machine Talk forum, you will probably get more responses.
