I just picked up an old singer from a yard sale for  $2 . I would like to find an old cabinet to put it in. I have been searching the internet but am only find the new koala cabinets and such things. Does anyone know where I might find one, or the proper words to use in my search. Funny thing was I had one but since the machine in it died I got rid of it :re: .
Having the machine flat with the table is the one big thing I miss with my new Pfaff.

Google it as vintage or antique sewing cabinets.

Oh no Mary,
Am I a vintage antique at 32? I didn't even think to look that way because I think the machine is only 30-40 yrs old. Well I 'll check it out and keep an eye on ebay.
Thanks!

Look around or phone to ask in used furniture stores. Goodwill, salvation Army & etc. stores. Also for sale ads in the paper. Some sewing machine shops get one or more in also. Then too, look in resale shops.

They seem to list a whole lot of things as "vintage" on E-Bay that I would definately question. Many of them are in my cabinet and I've been married 31 years (and bought long after I got married)...not what I would call vintage, but I guess the idea is to get people to look. The "antique" ticket seems to go with things in my mother's generation and before...go figure. When I was young I would have sworn she was an old fossil, but she got a whole lot younger as I grew up, (I guess E-Bay agrees more with the youthful "me").

Vintage is kinda wide open, antique is anything over 25 yrs. old isn't it. That makes me VERY valuable. :bluewink:

I am new to this forum and don't know if this is allowed or not but I have an old Singer cabinet. Right now it has a Singer Touch and Sew Model 758 in it that works. The cabinet/desk s called the Bakersfield. If you would like, I could scan the picture on the back of the instruction manual from the machine so that you could get an idea....

Let me know,
Sheena

Try every Salvation Army or Goodwill store, along with flea markets. Too bad you don't live close to Wheeling, WV I could stand to part with one. The other thing is if you see a really nasty treadle that is froze up and like the antique look, find a guy with a good band saw or router and get rid of the old rust bucket and refinish and have a new hold sizedfor the machine you found. That is one of my favorite cabinets. My father made it fit for my Singer Stylist, there was no saving the froze up rusted treadle. My cabinet is a beautiful walnut wood with ornate wooden drawer pulls. I'm a machine junkie, our local goodwill tried to get rid of their supply and I spent $50 and brought home 6 machines. There's still a Futura and an Athena in cabinets there for $25 each. I just have no room for them. Always have a Featherweight in the car........................Good Luck! CJ

Boy, you guys are lucky if you can find these cabinets at such prices. Here in Canada, if you can find one, you're likely looking at a $350 range.

Hi Kaytee,
If you can make a trip to the Upper Ohio River Valley, Wheeling WV, your sure to find them at yard sales and such. Last Sept we were flooded terribly and there were dozens of them pitched. Made me sick, the water damage was at the bottom Iron with the treadle and the wood was just fine. I salvaged 2 for a friend in my furniture refinishing class, One had a great usable machine still in it, the other a New Home was rusted (from being in someone's basement but not under the water). The new home is now home to her Pfaff. This forum is great, neat to hear from people all over! Have a great week. CJ
