Who's using what?

I have a Kenmore 19001 with a Reader/writer. I'd like to start digitizing my own designs, but the software that comes with my reader/writer is too basic, does too little and is hard to manipulate.

I know some of you must be digitizing--what are you using? What do you like or dislike about it?

I have PE6 from Brother. I also use embird for some things but I am now so use to PE6 that is mostly what I use. I find most digitizing software is not easy to learn as the manuals are written in alien language lol...but I was fortunate to take some classes on line to learn it and have been pleased with the results.

I use PE4 from from brother, they are up to 6 now!! whoa, haven't had the urge to upgrade b/c I don't embroider a whole lot and what I have works for me but I know PE5 had a curved manual punch tool which the lady I took my classes from said was great. would like to try embird or buzz edit sometime but I don't have enough hours in the day to do that!!

I use the Viking software. I'm just starting. There are lots of tutorials out there, and I have a few..it's not an easy program. I've heard Artista is VERY good, but have no experience with it myself. I have two Designer 1's and the full [old] set of software. The new software is on my want list, lol.

I have a question about digitizing and jump stitches. I have the Singer Futura CE 100 that uses the Autopunch digitizing software. I'm new to this so it is probably that the light bulb just hasn't connected to the electricity with me yet but I digitized the Oklahoma State Mascot, Pistol Pete. He is only three colors, orange black and white but I ended up with a million and one jump stitches. Is that normal for digitized work?

Patsy, most digitized work needs to be worked on such as jump stitches, etc. I do know it says auto but many people such as yourself have found it is not that easy. If not mistaken embird helps with the jump stitches if you have that software. Please be careful when using copyright material. Quite a few problems are coming up with that issue lately in the embroidery world lol

Thanks Mary  I do enjoy digitizing and now that I am learning the ins and outs I admire those zundt designs for lace, woah that is work beyond belief let me tell you. There will always be areas we like and dislike but keeping at it is the key.

Thanks Joann. I know about copyrights and I'm only going to use this design for myself, not selling to anyone. I don't have Embird, I have Autopunch which is what Singer sells with the Futuras. It originally sells for $200 but dh and I got it at a discount for $150 when we bought the CE 100. The 200 is the same machine except it has a few more built-in embroidery stitches which I could care less about since between my Pfaff 2044 and my Quantum 3400, I have about 300 or 400 embroidery stitches which can be combined. I bought the Futura strictly for embroidery. I think I will stitch the design out again tonight since I've redigitized it and see what happens.

Hi, I use my generations software to digitize. I really like to manually punch some of my intricate designs after I have imported the image. Doing this, I work the image from front to back. I find this really enjoyable even though on some designs it can take some time.
I currently own a Brother ULT 2003 and more recently purchased a PR-600 which I really love.
Digitizing I find takes alot of time, but when I design works out then I can't wait to start on the next design.

You are correct, digitizing does take time but it can be quite gratifying. Manual punch is one of my favourites. Have learned how to do the fur on animals and that is alot of fun.

May I ask why you use Generations instead of PE?

Well, when I purchased my first Brother ULT2003D machine, I was originally only going to use pre-digiztized designs. I was asking how I could I do up a logo or business card and digitized, Generations had just come in and he had told me that it was much better than PE (which I had never used either). I still don't know what capabilities PE has, but with Generations I can do photostitch, cross-stitch, random photo, it has really become endless. Plus I can get my updates on-line and I can now export from my computer directly to my PR-600. At first I really didn't like digitzing at all, but now I really enjoy it (except when it isn't turning out).

I talked to my Singer dealer this afternoon and have decided to take a 2 hour digitizing class in February. I will be taking the class on PSW (XL-5000 - XL-6000 software) but it works pretty much on the same order as the Autopunch which although it says auto does allow you to manipulate the design at the end before you save it. The cost will be $50 for 2 hours.

I haven't taken pictures of any of the digitizing I have, done. But I hope to start working on putting together a catalogue of work that I have done. I do have alot of the samples that I have done for some of my customers. I just need to find the time to put them together. But, I think I'll take some pictures and see how they look.
I actually wish where I purchased my software they had someone there to teach classes. I learned alot by trial and error. Live and Learn.
