My hobby, besides adding to my stash, is collecting Sewing Machine Music Boxes. They are becoming harder to find, so if you know of someplace to check out let me know.

"Now I collect fabric, thread, machines and dust..."

That about sums up my collections, better add notions & patterns as well.

My collections are slimming down quickly though, with the mold problem in my basement/sewing area. :bluesad: It will be interesting to start fresh in the next several months.

When I worked for Michigan State University in the Entomology Dept, everybody gave me bug stuff. There was lots of great fabric out there for a while. Most of that was sewed up long ago of course.

Now I am into little boys.

Have a great day

I collected the Amish Heritage figurines with the little miniature Amish quilts mounted behind them; had nearly all of them when we moved to a much smaller home. Now they are all in their boxes, neatly stored away. I need to find another home for them.
Aside from the usual quilter's array of quilting stuff - fabric, etc., I also collected Singer Featherweights, and other old machines. Have whittled that down to a select dozen or so.
Then there are the sewing boxes and tables.........
Oh, flamingoes!

just hopelessly addicted,

I love questions like this!
I have a large collection of Precious Moment Figurenes....1st collection.
An even larger collection of frogs; rubber, plastic, stuffed, metal, glass and rock. Friends give me frogs all of the time. I get to work and there is a new one on my desk....collecting them is lots of fun!
Along the lines of crafting....I collect crochet patterns, yarns and hooks.
And now that I'm sewing I have a large collection of sewing patterns... :nah:

Collections??? Hmmmmm -- well, DH started me a collection of the special and limited edition Hallmark Seraphims. I have several of those -- one which is out of circulation and is now in the neighborhood value of approx. $500. I also collect angels and have them hanging, sitting, standing, etc. all over the house. I also have a small collection of specialty rabbits that DH has purchased one for me every Easter since we've been remarried so, I only have about 10 of those. Otherwise, I think I'm just collecting STUFF at this point in my life or so it would appear from my sewing room -- i.e., garment fabrics, patterns, batting, quilt fabrics, sewing and embroidery machines. Man, this room is really getting crowded. :re:

I collect shot glasses from all the places we go. Funny thing is I don't drink. Well you know an occasional glass of wine or a drink when we go out but never just a shot. I picked those because almost everyplace you go has them, they are small, and they are normally cheap.

Gina, that's why I picked thimbles, small and found everywhere. When we went to CA they even had one in the shape of a sea otter. DD collects shot glasses and has them from all over the world and US since she was in the Navy she had the chance to get them.

I used to collect tins, but the dusting got too much so I got rid of most of them except what my children bought me for birthdays and such. I love bowls. Usually the bigger sizes, different colours and with patterns. Have to quit because I have no place to put them.

Our Dollar Store had unfinished shelving in the shape of houses with various size openings that I bought and finished. I've got about 6 of them finished at this point. I've got 2 thimbles that catch your eye. One is pewter with Stone Henge around it and the other is the ceramic Sea Otter.

I also have a HUGE collection of crafting supplies, that seem to multiply when I'm not looking! LOL :whacky:

OH my gosh I forgot my most favorite thing to collect. I love collecting TY Beanie Babies. Back when they were so hard to get and people were charging $$$$ for them, my husband and I would go to flea markets and once a month we would drive an hour+ to an outlet mall where a lot of stores carried them. Then we moved to Germany and I got Germania. That by far is my favorite one. I still collected them while in Germany but not as seriously as when we lived in FL. Now that we are in San Antonio I haven't found many places that sell them. Although I did find a store downtown that sold only Beanie Babies. It was just last weekend, and I was shocked to say the least to find those very same Beanies that I would drive all over FL to get, on a buy one get one free table.. I kept saying "I paid this much for that one and that much for this one." I never paid more than $20 for one and most I got for less than ten but still I was floored to see so many of them on that shelf.

I collect shells from everywhere. Also books and fabric, although I am trying to reduce that, since I am rapidly approaching 78. My Strolling the Block quilt is nearly finished and it is made entirely from scraps. After years of FME classes and custom sewing, I have enough scraps to make a couple more of them! But I'm not.

I also have 15 grandchildren. And a collection of demitasse cups, and another of coffee mugs. I'm trying to break this collecting habit! MariLynntx

Do you live near the water? I have always wanted to, but my DH didn't. I have seven children and 15 grandchildren, and most of them live in Houston and Friendswood, on the Texas coast. We spend part of each summer on the beach on Bolivar Peninsula. We have several friends who sail, but we just loll around on the sand; the Gulf of Mexico is pretty rough for sailing. I'm just a lazy old lady nowadays...my daughters and daughters-in-law do all the cooking and the men keep an eye on the kids. Marilynntx

Marilyn,

Yes, I do live close to the great lakes. I don't know if you are familiar with the geography of Michigan, but I live in the Northern Lower Eastern side of Michigan. So if I go 30 miles North, I'm at Lake Huron, if I go 21 miles East I'm at Lake Huron and if I travel 45 miles West, I'm at Lake Michigan. I lived on a small inland lake many years ago. Where I lived when I grew up was within a mile every direction of an inland lake. So I grew up playing on the water. I swim (of course), water ski, (not these days, my body gets sore), fish and of course sail. I learned to sail as a teenager and use to race sailboats. Nowadays, my husband and I sail in the summer when ever we can. We like to cruise. We sail to Mackinac Island every spring for our first sail of the season, for the Lilac Festival that they have there. We have sailed the North Channel (beautiful Canadian waters) and of course all around here in Northern Lake Huron. Too many ports to mention. We have a 40 ft. wooden ketch that we are restoring as our retirement boat. We hope to live on the boat and sail for a few years. We plan to sail the rest of the Great Lakes and then out to the east coast, then down to the Bahamas. Then after that who knows, maybe we will come to visit you and take you for a sail in the Gulf.

My Dd(13) informed us the other day that if you live in Michigan you are never more than 7 miles from fresh water, a lake, stream, pond, or river. She knows lots of useless geography trivia that comes in handy sometimes.

The house my DH and I built here (which one of my daughters and her DH bought--I am in a nearby apartment) sits on a little peninsula of land that drops steeply down the pine-tree-covered hill to Copperas Creek. It has a lot of water in it now as we have had rain, rain, rain this winter. Sometimes in summer it is totally dry; you can walk down its limestone bottom barefoot and come out with dry feet. Besides sewing stuff, I collect LLadro porcelains (especially the christmas bells) and any kind of angel... my first Lladro I bought when I studied at the University of Madrid in 1976.. In Madrid I paid about $15 for that first figurine of Don Quijote... that Christmas I came home and found it for $76... I don't even want to know its value now... I probably wouldn't enjoy it for fear of something happening to it... I just enjoy them for their beauty..
