What a great forum! I am looking forward to getting to know many of you through SEW WHAT'S NEW. Isn't "the internet" the most wonderful invention? I feel so fortunate to live in this day & age. Amazing... I am a 52 year old gal who has decided that after working "way too many years" in a 9x10 office for 10-12 hrs a day... there MUST be a better way of making a living! After much research and soul-searching, I am preparing to go into the sewing business. My specialty will be doggie type attire... dresses (party, wedding, casual, sun ), shirts, coats, vests, hats, slippers, bows, holiday costumes, blankets... you name it. My initial quest at this point is obtaining as many patterns and ideas as I can. If you can help... I would love to hear from you! If you can simply direct me to resouces you have found helpful... or share a picture of a special pet & attire... or even most hopefully share tried & true patterns, I would be so thankful. As time goes by... I would love to share my accomplishments (& possible failures ) with you. My hubby & I have an adorable English Bull Dog named Spike... who will no doubt end up being our testing model (he's going to love it!) Thank you for your time... and one way or the other, I will be connecting with many of you in response to other "threads & postings". Blessings To All...

Hi.. and welcome.. the ideas are wonderful within this group!! I have made a fleece outfit for my little "buddy". He is a liver/white Brittany Spaniel.. When he was parading around in the "doggie guise" he held his head up quite high and had an elite "air" about himself in the dogrun within our complex.. dog owners wanted to know where I got the "outfit" for the little guy... I said... "oh I made that!!!" I have had 3 orders thus far... The pattern that I tried is TRUE and great to follow...: http://www.kwiksew.com/Cold_Fusion/catalog/Frame_New.cfm Have fun... I know that I am since I resumed sewing.. Karen Karen

I made a raincoat for my Irish Wolfhound years ago, and then a couple of safety coats for hunting season for my Lab and Pound Puppy. I got the inspiration and lots of instruction from the greyhound manor site. I've given you a link below for the hooded coat, but look around. There are lots of different ideas on this site. Hope this helps. Sandy http://www.greyhoundmanor.com/pat/hood/hoodpat.html |

Wow Karen & Sandy!!! Thank you sooo much Connecting with this site... and the encouragement from family & friends has me (us) so excited about our new venture (The Elegant BowWow). I'm working on a website... and will be "open for business" within the next couple of months. Karen... my hubby (Bob) once raised Brittany Spaniels... so there is a definite "soft spot" in his heart there! If you have any pics of your "buddies" with your creations... we would love to see Sandy... awesome website!! Thank you!! It occured to me that "safety jackets" would be a great concept... you confirmed that MaryW... thanks for the welcome! This is a terrific forum... I'm hooked already... I hope to "contribute" someday too. Have a wonderful Saturday... I'll be back later... > > Freda Blessings To All...

Hi Karen... Cute...cute...CUTE!!! Thanks for sharing the pattern #2897. I thought the others were way sweet too. I'm having such fun sorting through all the options... and getting everything in place to actually be under "production" for our new little biz. Our little (welll... really kinda big) fella "Spike" is so funny when he has his "duds" on too... they are so vain (and adorable) when they know they look good We look forward to seeing pics... and would be happy to share along the way as well: <email address removed for privacy> Thanks again Karen for your "show & tell"... until next time, > > Freda Blessings To All...

Hi DorothyL... A cute doggie raincoat pattern (with a hood) is definitely on my "wish list". I've seen some that are made out of vinyl (plastic)... but fear that our babies could possibly overheat in them... they need a little ventilation (I think?)... and would probably be better if they were made out of lined "waterproof" nylon fabric. I'll let you know what I come up with, if you'd like. Thank you so much for the suggestion! > > Freda Blessings To All...

I believe that the big 4 companies have doggie costumes in their costume section, so you can look through that. Ticia |

I also sew dog outfits. I have 7 Chinese Cresteds (retired show dogs) and they are all running around the house right now in their outfits. Chinese Cresteds only have hair on their heads, feet and tail. Other than that they are hairless. It snowed yesterday (not too much) and it's going to snow again this weekend (alot more) and so they really appreciate their outfits. I have a pattern but I'm not sure how to share it on this list. It covers their whole body and has 4 legs which I put ribbing on. I put ribbing on their necks also to give a turtleneck look. Barb |

Hello Barb... Your "babies" and outfits sound adorable. I would LOVE to see pics... I'm not sure I have ever seen Chinese Cresteds. Maybe MaryW will share with us whether or not pics can (& how) be posted here? In the meantime... my email address is: <email address removed for privacy> What kind of materials did you use on their outfits? Did you use velcro? buttons? ties? zippers? I "think" I saw a pattern similar to what you are describing in one of the KWIK SEW catalogs. (thank you Karebear) Did you create your patterns... or are they from one of the "big 4 companies"? I'm getting quite a collection of KWIK SEW & MCCALL patterns that I think will be versatile & popular. I am hoping to hear what kind of fabrics are the best... and I'm still looking for unique ideas for "little girl" doggies. MY current project is making "denim jeans" for our Spike (a 2 year old English Bull Dog) with red suspenders... a tool belt... and construction hat. Silly... I know... but what fun to take him on a "walks" when he has his "clothes" on. He LOVES the attention... and we love showing him off We mix the "practical" along with the "fun stuff". Hope to hear more... > > Freda Blessings To All...

Freda, I use polar fleece for the outfits. I pull the neck over their heads and guide their feet into the leg parts. I'll try to take pictures this weekend and post it to either yahoo or aol so that they can be accessed. Chinese Cresteds look like little Clydesdale horses. I also make belly bands for my boys. Most of my boys are not neutered and my 2 girls aren't spayed. When a girl come into season the boys get a little crazy and act a bit more macho. To prevent them from lifting their legs on furniture I put belly bands on them. I split hand towels into 2 lengthwise and sew velcro at the ends. When they wear them I put a sanitary napkin in the middle. The belly band goes around their body and closes over their back. If they lift their legs in the house while wearing a belly band the urine goes into the napkin and not on the furniture. Show dogs cannot be neutered or spayed and so these are hot items with dog show people....mostly people who have toy dogs. Barb |

Barb... I love the "belly band" idea... Freda... your outfits so "doggone fitting" I just finished making my little prince a "night shirt"... He loves it and knows that he needs to put it on for "bed time" I will see about sending some pics your way of my little "brittany" so hubby can see. Karen Karen
