My favorite is Fiskars. I have the fiskars soft touch & they are my favorites. When I usd to work in a fabric store, 21 yrs. ago. We sold a lot of Wiss & that is what we used in the store. The fiskars didn't sharpen well but I think they have changed. My do fine. I know there are some more expensive brands
out there that may be better but I would personaly rather buy 2 less exspensive than to buy 1 more expensive & have 1 of my kids cut cardboard with it. My kids know not to touch my sewing scissors but sometimes it happens.

I like Ginger. They are expensive but they stay very sharp and they sharpen well. I have also used Marks and Mundal (I think that these might be made by the same company.)

I have Gingher and very pleased with them. They are expensive but with the discount at Joann's they were affordable for me.

Wow, you have Henkels? I have a pair that is about 30 years old. I haven't seen them in years and wasn't even sure that they still made them. I guess they just don't market them around here.

I keep a pair of Fiskars on hand for doing things like sequins and other things that are known to be very hard on my scissors.

I have Gingher scissors and love them! They are expensive, but worth it, in my opinion. You just have to remember to only cut fabric with them and not use them for cutting paper because that will dull them. My family knows not to touch my good sewing scissors! :bluesmile

The Fiskars soft touch are good if you have problems with your hands. I also have a pair of Gingher that are about 30 years old and a pair that are newer. Mine are for left handed. But the Fiskars you can use with either hand.

I have 2 Ginghers, (one is over 30 years old ), Both are still sharp and used daily. I have tried others along the way, just never as happy with them. I do have a Fiskars Featherweight that is in use as well but I find it needs sharpening on a regular basis to keep it going.
With the 40% coupons at Jo-Ann's you can get a Gingher for a really reasonable price.

I have several pair of Fiskars in different styles and sizes-snippets, soft touch, regular. I use them for different projects. My favorite fabric pair that I bought a couple of years ago are my Gingher. Used a coupon or got a good sale at JoAnn's

Thanks for all of the scissor info!!!
I will have to see what I can find on my next JoAnns shopping spree!!
I never realized that cutting paper makes them dull.....now I know why my Mom would always get on to use about using her "special" scissors!!

I have 3 main pairs of scissors. A pair of mundial which are slightly serrated and I find are good for knits and other fabrics which tend to slide away from the cutting. A pair of Kai which are my favourite overall, my favourite snippers are also Kai. My last pair are a Gingher applique pair which are great for trimming.
Unfortunately here in New Zealand the selection is a bit limited. My Gingher I had to send to the States to get.
I also bought a pair of Mundial pinking shears about a year ago. They may not get used very often (I have a serger), but when used they do a really good job.

Ok, let's get everyone screaming again.
I use cheapies and when they get dull toss them and get new ones. That's because I rarely use them to cut fabric, other than to trim seams. I've been seen cutting paper with them and other horrid abuses.
To cut out fabric I use a rotary cutter. I can never cut a straight line with scissors.

I didn't know that you could your a rotery cutter to cut out a pattern??
I guess you would need a really big cutting mat or you could really ruin your table~ :whacky:

You can get really big mats but I use two medium size ones that I move around. Lately I only cut a couple pieces at a time. Then a couple more when I'm ready for them. That way I don't spend an hour cutting (which, I dare say, I am not alone in hating). I cut so much straighter when the fabric stays absolutely flat.
BUT -- I have to take back all I said about scissors. I went nuts last night when I caught my husband in the sewing room using the good ones to cut up cardboard.
"Well, I didn't know" he said.
Now he does!

You can get really big cutting mats that fit the ultimate cutting table perfectly. Before I got my big mat and table I used to move my smaller one around under the fabric. I hardly use my scissors anymore. My old favorites were Mundial for lefties. I lost those in Germany so I picked up a pair of universal shears at IKEA. I love them. The only name on them is IKEA. So you probably can't even get them here.

Kind of like the time my DD decided to trim her braces' wire with mine. She took about 3 pair of Gingher scissors in a few minutes; my dressmakers, the appliques and my favorite 5 inch embroidery scissors. It took me several years to find another pair of the embroidery scissors. The cheapest pair was $28.00. Each one had a little notch in it from the wire on her braces!

After having several disasters with scissors I took a small piece of blaze orange ribbon and tied it to the handle of THE ONE PAIR they were forbidden to use. I then announced to all that unless they wanted to see the color in my face match that ribbon on the scissors they would not touch that pair of scissors. So far the thought of me turning that color has worked! :)

Rotary cutting is the ONLY way to go these days, unless you're doing a special silk that requires serrated shears anyway. I have 3 different sizes of rotary cutters (JoAnnes 50%!), and 2 Ginghers.

I've tried Fiskars, but they're not worth the trouble. Get dull so fast. There's nothing like the feeling of a really sharp pair of shears. It might be better than sex :-D

Hmmm. I must say after the intinal shock wore off and I was able to type a few lines, ..I must say I was numbed at the horror stories of cutting all those things with sewing scissors. I love shears and scissors. I collect them and have all kinds of brands.

I suppose my favorite is my Gingher and then Fiskar. I do have a pair of really sharp Singer.
