Well I'm a little closer then Mary but still too far to meet on a regular basis - I live in Chatham. Hubby and I visit the Welland canal and Niagara Falls about once a year so I know how far away it is.
Too bad.

Well, I'm Canadian too - but unfortunately it's about a 4 day drive to your house so don't bother keeping the coffee warm :coffee2: Is there anybody out near Abbotsford, B.C.?

I'm not, but I LOVE THE CANAL AND THE LOCKS!!!!!!!! I'm a Yank :bg:. One year we were coming from St Catherines and viewing the locks on our way back to Niagara Falls, and we were in farm country. WELL, you don't expect to look out over a farmers corn field and see a HUGH SHIP rising up in the middle of his field!!!!! The closer we got we could see that it was in one of the locks and being raised up to the next level!!!!!!! Talk about strange. :nc:

Hi! I'm about 15 or 20 min. to Abby or Clearbrook across the river!
I'm one of those old bats! that frequent the fabric store and spend
too much money plus overflow my stash cupboard. :bluesmile
Janice, I would like to see a spot in the store to hang a bulletin
board that would link up sewers if they so wanted....Like only one
of my friends sews and is not interested in going to the Tradex
show or the crafts and clothes I sew and I would like to attend the
show with someone close to my age and have the interest, and
maybe there are others like me. Anyway I still go either by myself or
with someone who just doesnt have the same feeling about it as I do.

Nancee, I'm in my early-mid forties and live on the South Shore of Montreal. My girlfriend is in her very late fifties and lives in Whitby. Most of her family is in Chatham; Violet, you probably know some of them. Anyways, when there's a show in Toronto or some special class within a couple of hours drive from her place, I pack my car and go to her place for a few days. Age difference and the driving doesn't bother neither one of us. We just have a ball together. I miss her terribly and her family is an extended family to me. Meeting her next weekend in Whitby for twilight tea at the quilt shop near her place. I'm so looking forward to it.

Most of my family is in NB. My friend's family is from Chatham. I don't know whether or not they quilt but they sure knit and so all kinds of crafts. I can enquire when I see her.

Hi, Just joined the group. I'm from Saint John, New Brunswick. I'm going to try the quilt block. Can anyone tell me where I go to see the photos of the completed blocks? I'm having a little trouble on the home page to get signed in, but once I get to the discussion boards, it's ok. Thanks for the free quilting lessons, and the sewing lessons. Ellymolin

Carman - I live in Abbotsford but I'm right on the dividing line between Abb. & Clearbrook.

NanCee - Sorry I took so long to get back - I'm doing a bookkeeping course and had to study. Since I work at Fabricland I could ask my manager about your idea of a bulletin board - I'm sure the manager would have no problem but our supervisor had our bulletin board taken down. On it we had business cards of people who did custom sewing, etc. Anyway, I too have a hard time finding someone to go to the Tradex show with, since most of my friends don't sew either and the ones I work with are usually working.

I'm not sure I'll be able to attend this year but there are many "old bats" who come into our store on a regular basis. I think we have the phone number for the quilters guild there too. Call us.

Jessi, there's the Craft and Sewing show coming up in the Spring; I usually try to go with my girlfriend. The Spring show is usually held on Airport road and the Fall show is at the Toronto Convention Centre. I'll try to post when time comes. It is always so nice.

Hi

I'd love to find out about any events or groups in our area.
I'm in Montreal.

I'd really appreciate it if you could post any info. There's not much English activities in this neck of the woods...

Thanks!

Here is a list of canadian guilds that might get you started. Quebec one is at the bottom and maybe if you email them they can give you a lead for your area.

Tammy, I don't know if events in Ottawa would interest you but usually there is a quilt show held Mother's Day weekend in May at the RA center - don't know exact dates this year. It is usually held from Friday to Sunday. Also, the Inspirations Needlecraft Show is held at the end of October. This year it will be Oct. 28 & 29 (http://www.inspirationsneedlecraft.com) . This is what got me interested in quilting.

Tammy, after I did the post about Ottawa, I decided to search for quilting links in Québec. As I am originally from the Eastern Townships, I know that there are some English quilting events down around Sherbrooke and Lennoxville. I hit on a web-site for the quilting guilds in Québec. The web-site is in English and references a lot of guilds in the Montreal area. So this may help you find an English one.

Good luck!

Hi, I just found this site yesterday and I am so excited to read over all the recent posts.

I am in Guelph Ontario, I think it would be a couple of hours away, maybe too far to get together every month but I would love to go to a quilt show or two this spring with some people.

Do you know of any quilt shows in Hamilton? I am in Guelph and Hamilton is about half-way between us. I'd drive over there for a show or if there is a great quilt shop there I'd go for that too.

Otherwise I would love to meet up with some people at the Toronoto show this spring.
