I am a beginner sewer who is very interested in a new machine. I have a wonderful Viking dealer nearby. I have heard so many good things about Viking. I am looking at the Interlude 445. I'd like a mid-range price machine, computerized, with a few extras. The Platinum 730/770 also look very cool, but not sure about $$. Also, are there opinions about the new "limited edition" Scandinavia series? I sent away for Pfaff brochures, and the 2026 and 2036 look very enticing, however, they are pricier for me. The Interlude looks like a good machine for a beginner. If anyone has opinions on the above machines, I'd very much appreciate it! Thanks so much . This is a wonderful website!

Hi Katie Lynn, and welcome to Sew Whats New.

Sorry I don't have any of those machines but I am sure some of the girls will give you an opinion.

I have a Viking 425 that I just love. My husband brought it for me for Christmas about 5 years ago. I was afraid of it at first but got over that. I have it cleaned about once a year. Have never had to have new parts. I have a good dealer here.

I have a viking Lily 555. It has been a very good machine and a good investment.

All I have are Viking Machines and I love them. I had a 1+ and traded it in on a Designer 1........which I like so much i got another Designer 1 and leave it set up for embroidery (I know... Miss Pig) I also have a 936 serger. I made one of Kaye Woods 6 hr. quilts with it and couldn't believe how nice it turned out. The machines are workhorses and I have never had a machine break down (knock on wood.) I dont think any of the viking machines would disappoint you with its sewing and ease of use.

Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 ; Husq. 936 Serger ; and lots and lots of fabric.

I also have Viking's and LOVE them. I have two D1's. Get the best you can afford. It's wonderful that you have a good dealer nearby, mine is 3 hours away, but that doesn't stop me, lol! These machines are workhorses!

I love my Pfaff with the IDT and also my computerized Janome Kenmore. However I feel the Scandinavia's are at a great price on sale now. I love the stitches on the model 200 but there are only around 20 or so. I also think the combo sew/embroid model 300 is a good price being a combo...they say the 300 is the same as the Iris. A lesser machine made by Janome for Viking that is good starter machine is the Huskystar model 224. This is the top Husky model with a few more stitches than the other Husky's including heirloom. It is the only Huskystar in this line that has the electronic features that give it full penetrating power no matter what speed you sew. It also has a one step buttonholer, needle threader, up /down needle and a speed regulator on the head. A friend that has several very good machines uses this model to do all of her heavy sewing on the heaviest of fabrics. It is also a very smooth and whisper quiet machine. I suggest a test drive on the different models to see which machine suits you the best. I went in to the dealer to buy a Viking but after test driving I came home with a Pfaff LOL. Now they came out with the Scandinavia's...and they seem very nice for the price. :)
