It's been a while so here's the question again.
Whatca maken?
What are you working on now? What is the last thing you finished? And, of course, what's next?

I finished a wool coat/cape/poncho thing of wool with a great print lining. The lining has some flame on it to keep me warm and a lady with a martini to keep me happy!

Right now I'm making a poly-crepe top. I have dark melon and light peach fabrics and made the back dark, one front side light and one dark. The sleeves will be light. There are patch pockets with light on the dark side of the front and dark on the light side of the front. Then there are little decorative tabs on the sleeves and pockets. I'm doing the -- you guessed it -- dark tab on light sleeves and pocket and light tab on dark pocket.
I'm going to try a little tone on tone (dark on dark and light on light) freehand embroidery on the tabs. Just a squiggly line.

After that I'm making me a pair of plain twill black pants.

So what about you?

I am making a quilt for my cradle, pants for me from Sandra B. I have to find the perfect buttons or some sort of embellishment for my Athena blouse sleeves.

I have some nice batik for the Italian blouse but Julie still has the pattern. Lots of 'me' stuff for a change. I have lost 20 lbs. so I am celebrating. :bluewink:

I took an emotional vacation from my business after losing a dear friend to cancer just before Christmas. This week I felt the urge to create return and dug in the fabric stash and started creating my original design skating outfits. I have sewn 2 stretch velvet dresses with sequin trim, one with a halter style neckline that has always given me "fits" and I have a lycra with stretch lace overlay on the machine right now. gee, it feels good to be back!

At the end I am not showing up at my grave all pretty and well preserved...I am coming in sliding, yelling "What a ride!"

Grandma Sue, sometimes we need to take a little vacation, don't we.

Dorothy, your fabrics always sound so yummy. Love the sound of that crepe.

Just finished a railhouse block ( can't remember if it is called that each block of 6"is divided into 3 6x2 rectangles)for a cot quilt - had a go at stippling on that good fun, my first real go.
I have a whole load of blocks left over so I am slashing them up and inserting triangles of contrasting colours to make the blacks have a more loose, contemporary feel.
I have plans to make a french hood a la 1540's in black satin, a coif, maybe a set of slashed sleeves in rose velvet and a stomacher for my daughters Tudor costume, this to be completed as a surprise for her when she gets back from college at the end of May.

And , as ever, when I sit down to watch tele, a little knitting ( mostly preemie stuff for local hospital)

and of course, jo jo's blocks!
love and kisses, Jan

Congratulations on the weight loss Mary!!  20 pounds that's a lot. I know you feel better. My total is 48 and still going but I had a lot more to lose then you did.

I'm still sewing baby things. Right now I'm working on a lamp for the babies room and then the dreaded memory quilt will be last thing. I have until next weekend (9 days) to finish it and I haven't even started. What can I say, I love the pressure. LOL

Just finished a fishing vest for my DD, it's her birthday on Monday. It's not high on my recommended things to sew, had a few problems with it, next one will be easier I hope.
Next on the list is replacing a zipper in a down jacket, definitely not looking forward to that.

I recently finished a Father Christmas doll for my sister..she's been coveting the one I made for my mother years ago! I made 3 fleece tops..one for my daughter, one for my son's girlfriend, and one for me. Made my son a pair of boxers for Christmas and last week had to add a button and buttonhole to the fly.

Now I've got a gorgeous emerald colored merino wool jersey cut out for another top for me, and I'm making a cape out of charcoal gray fleece with a tartan plaid lining. If it comes out okay, I may sell a couple on Ebay.

Guess I should get busy!
Sandy

Oh and congrats to Mary and mother-in-law on your weight loss! I've only lost 2lbs so far..since New Year's. Got a whole lot more to go!!!

Thanks smessier, I did it one pound at a time. It didn't get on me fast so it's not going to come off of me fast. Sometimes I go in the meetings and I've just mantained and other times I took off 2 pounds, so as you can see it's slow going but it's well worth the results. Just hang in there it gets easier. Especially when you can get down into the next size clothes. Now that's rewarding.

I've been making lots of baby sleepers and gowns for grandbaby #5 due in March. Also some long sleeve T-shirts for me and I just cut out a bathrobe for me. Have had the fabric for 2 years nos so I think it has aged enough now for me to safely start on it. It is a flannel back satin and feels oh so nice. Generally the only thing I make for myself is scrubs for work so this has been a treat for me.

Susie, you are to be admired. That is a lot of weight to lose. Congratulations.

I am very slow but sure. I can feel and see the difference. It's a good thing. I have been at this since school started the first week of September. I don't mind it being slow as long as I am on the right track.

I made my 3 quilt blocks! (only needed one but am working on Christmas already too!). Also made 3 valentine printed scrub hats for my daughter. And I made a tic tac toe game out of my grandson's leftover fabrics (quilt, outfits) that folds up and has handles so we can take it when we eat out, etc. I'd post a pic if I knew how to to this board.

Mary-congrats on the weight loss! Seems like it takes seconds to put it on and years and years to take it off! CONGRATS!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you, I'm on a roll now. It's not so bad especially when you are as discusted as I was toward the end. I quit smoking 3 years ago and weighed a little more then I do now. In 1 year I put on 45 pounds. It seemed everything I tried I couldn't get it off. I walked, went to water aerobics rode my bike, but I didn't stop my bad eating habits. Instead of smoking I was picking up food in place of that cigarette. I still munch out on things but it's good things. Things that won't put weight on my hips and belly. What is so rewarding is when my DGD came up to me and put her arms around me and her little hands could touch in the back of me she screamed, "MawMaw you are skinny, my hands can touch." Well that just made it all worth while. And then when I go in the department stores to buy clothes and I'm down 4 sizes from what I was, that makes me really feel proud. And of course the looks I get from people who haven't seen me in the last year, they can't believe I lost all this weight. Now I say, I lost (4) 10 pound bags of potatoes and one 5 pound bag. And to think that Bren is the one who really started me off. She's the one who posted here about losing a few pounds. Thank you Bren and everyone else who helped encouraged me to hang in there.

A shortish bias skirt, none of my old skirts fit 7 months after having my second child. Also making fitted nappies for my two sons, getting sick of paying for premium disposables. Also drafting my own patterns for said nappies so I can sell them once I source fabric in New Zealand (hemp is what I want, but can I find it here?)
I also have to then do clothes for size 3 for my eldest son this coming winter, hoping youngest stays in size 1 for a bit longer, I don't want them both in the same size just yet!

I did a lot of sewing over Christmas break. I made myself 4 long sleeve tops for work. I also made DGSs pajama pants & shirts, DS got a pair of PJ pants. lots of rice packs, dust rags & bowling diapers. Now I have a jacket & pants set cut out for myself. I started sewing & then got busy at work so too tired to sew something that I have to think about. I started a shirt for DS but that is when my serger broke so I put it aside until I get things figured out. I also have my BOM cut out. We have another 3 day weekend so maybe I will get some done. even though I have to do it the old fashioned way( without the serger).
Congratilations on all of the weight loss! I had lost about 10 pounds since I started working. I think I put some back on this week because I have been stress eating. Lots of illness in the family, Bills to pay , No money, (I think that got figured out though) & not enough time at work to get everything done & a broken serger. Other than the illness & the serger though I think everything is getting back to normal. So I will start working on sewing again to keep me away from food.
I forgot I also made a baby nightgown, blanket, booties & burp cloth for the counsilor at school. It was the only homeade item at the shower. She is going on maternity leave next week. I don't know what we will do without her.

I've been doing kid stuff to get out of my slump, two sweaters for the two year old (fleece, colour blocked to get rid of the left overs :bg: and lots of pooh bear embroidery), dragon hats (long fleece hats with spikes), made a summer skirt and blouse for dd (age 6) and started organizing some of the stash for an attempt at SWAP by julie at timmel fabrics. Likely won't get it done but the motivation is a good thing :re: . I also found some UFOs all cut out and ready to sew, so I should get to work on those too. Ah the joy of having some time to sew on mat leave.... makes one not want to go back to work!

Mary, it may be on the wrong continent but http://www.duttonsforbuttons.co.uk/ has some amazing buttons that will just set off a garment. I love their diamonte and vintage glass buttons. Too good to put on clothes - use them as jewelry!

I've been making 'hugs'...or some people call them Chilly Willies. Just joined up with The Hugs Project (www.hugsproject.com) which is a great group (on Yahoo Groups) who sew things for the deployed military troops. These 'hugs' are long cool ties that are filled with moisture crystals that hydrate when they're soaked in water, then they tie them around their necks to keep cool in the heat of Iraq or where ever they're deployed to. My son was just deployed so I'm keeping myself busy...trying not to worry so much. We've also made neck warmers for the colder temperatures.
When not working on those, I've been making quilted tote bags..just made one for my SIL, and made a quilted purse/bag for my niece. Just bought a serger so I'm having fun with that!

I made three valances for our TV room this weekend -- had nothing but the shutters on the windows for over a year after the linings of what I had up rotted from the sun -- couldn't decide what to make and had to take the old ones apart so I could use the "inside" fabric again (I love it!). Now starting doll clothes for my DGD, who just turned two. Lots of fun! Bought lots of $1 - $2 yard fabric at Joanne's sale a couple of weeks ago, will start summer clothes for her soon. I like the little, simple stuff sometimes -- nearly instant gratification! LOL

I went on weight watchers. I go to the meetings and I also am a member of the website. It's not a hard diet to follow as a matter of fact it's not a diet at all it's a way of life. I eat just about anything I really want but when I have had my point total for the day I stop eating. It's a lot of points you get in the beginning if you are over weight as I was when I started. I eat birthday cake when it's someone's birthday, I've eaten out at all my favorite restaurants, and you can even have ice cream and things like that. You just have to watch your portions and count your points. I use sugar free in substitutes in my coffee and tea, and drink diet coke. A Mc Donald's ice cream cone is 3 points, 4 nuggets are 4 points, corn on the cob is 1 point for the little ears and then you use the spray I can't believe it's not butter and it's no points for that. There is all kinds of tricks on the website www.weightwatchers.com if you want to try it. But there is one thing I do faithfully every week and that's go to my meetings. I've only missed 2 since May. They give you lots of good advice and help you stay on the program and not want to cheat. Once you start losing you will keep on trying it feels so good to lose and not starve doing. Let me know if you need anymore advice. It's easy once you learn your food points. And another thing mark down all your points. It's easy to over eat when you're not thinking about what your eating. That way you'll know what's going in your body. Good Luck.
