I bought a couple of fusible bias tape makers and am having fun using them. Found out the best way to do this is with the mini clover iron. After only a few uses I find that I have burnt web on my iron. Checked the web and found cleaners you can buy, but would anyone have a home remedy on how to clean the iron. Any hints would be appreciated. |

Shirley, Not sure but I heard that a fabric softener sheet that has been used works great. You just heat up your little iron and rub it across until the stuff comes off. Susie northern NY

Put down brown paper and salt. Turn your iron on, let it heat up and rub it back and forth thru the salt. It works for big irons but I have never tried it for one of the little ones.

I run my iron over wax paper on a regular basis - mostly because I always seem to have fusible web on it It seems to take the gunk off and leaves the iron very clean. I haven't tried it on my clover iron but I noticed yesterday when I used it that I managed to get fusible web on it too. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

That is one of the reasons that waxed paper is a must in my sewing room.. another thing its good for is sewing 2 laces together.. I use strips of waxed paper instead of stabilizer, so it doesn't put too much pressure on the lace when it is torn away.. My Mom taught me to clean the iron with waxed paper when I first learned how to iron.. Back then , it was to clean the starch buildup off the bottom.. Still works and keeps the iron gliding very smoothly..

I never thought about using it on the clover iron. Thanks for the suggestion. I use it on my regular iron all of the time. From my mom, too 'Libby' ( I have a sister named Libby). Three types of paper in my sewing room: wax, freezer and blank newsprint. Very useful. Molly |
