I'd like to make my own pants for biking--not those tight squishy show every chocolate chip I ever ate on my hips kind. Does anyone know a place on-line I can buy fabric like that? Diana |

Hi Diana, there is something called Windbloc that is both wind proof and water resistant. Apparently it is quite warm but lightweight. Google it or maybe check some outdoor fabric suppliers, they will know.

This is a fabric made by Malden Mills, try the following link http://www.maldenmillsstore.com/dept.asp?dept=11&id=05234133222153962320542 I don't know if it will work as a link, but you can copy and paste. I never got the hang of links in posts. They sell to the public, I haven't tried it yet (being in New Zealand I suspect the postage would be hideous) Good luck |

I did a fair bit of looking around for suppliers of specialized fabrics for outdoor garments when I was writing up the instructions for the maternity and baby-carrying jacket inserts. When I set up the Sites of Interest page on the jacket inserts web site, I put up all the links to these suppliers. If you want to check them out, my site is at: http://www.kiddiesgames.com/jacketinserts One that I haven't yet added to the list is http://therainshed.com/ These suppliers often carry a wide variety of outdoor garment patterns that you may also find useful. Good luck. |

Writer, I just made my daughter some riding breeches from the stretchable windbloc. It is great. In cutting, I accidentally cut it with the "Most" stretch going up and down (rather than the usual around the body stretch). This windbloc as 4 way stretch, but not equal. (Make sense?) Anyway, it ended up to be a really good mistake, as now her knees don't stretch out of shape! You may also want to check the "Suitability" patterns, they have a pattern for tights that has the seam on the outside of legs, and no inner seam. I would think that clothing for riding a bike can't be too much different than for riding a horse! Good luck! |
