Lol, the only home dec. thing I have done lately is a couple of pillows for the couch and a new ironing board cover. Quite an improvement, don't ya think. LOL What has anyone done lately for their windows or other areas of the home? MaryW

I made three valances this past weekend for the windows in my TV room -- they've been naked for almost a year because I wanted to re-use the fabric (the lining rotted from the sun) and couldn't make a decision on style. (Sometimes not making a decision is the easiest route) I have enough quilt blocks finished to make a queen-sized quilt (actually, they've been done for about three years LOL) so I'm guilting myself into finally putting them together since I had to restrain myself this weekend from throwing out the bedspread I'm currently using (it's older than dirt!). I never thought about making an ironing board cover -- what kind of fabric do you use? I've always bought the Teflon coated ones . . . |

I used a really sturdy 100% cotton, it's almost like denim.

I just finished sewing curtains for a bedroom and made a bed skirt to match. I used muslin, I love the flowing romatice look. They turned out really nice and match the rest of the room. Talk about a cheap project as well. Mary, dosn't cotton scorch when you iron on it? I need to make a new iron board cover myself. |

Anything will scorch or burn if you try hard enough. I have been making my own for years. Here is a rough outline of how I do it. Take your old cover off and trace around it. Add a one inch seam allowance around entire outside of the cover. This is going to be a casing. Turn in raw edge and press. Turn in about 1/2" and stitch around all but a couple of inches of square end. I thread twill tape, or ribbon or elastic thru the casing and treat as if it were an elastic waistline on pants. Put it on your board and pull up to fit. Attach ends or tie off. You are done. It looks so nice to have a nice, clean new cover on. MaryW

I made curtains for the kitchen. One has garlic print all over and the other tomatoes. Still have to hang them though. Dorothy |

You guys are too much. Last project was a painting in the hallway, before that were placemats and matching bread basket cloth. I bought the denim for slipcover and decorative fabric for piping and matching roman blind. Everything is washed and ready to be cut. Now I need the time Maybe between the babyquilt and André's 50th birthday quilt not to mention a few T's I desperately need, I'll be able to make that slipcover. |

Hi Ladies, enjoy your jokes! I just finished a lined valance for the sewing room (20 minutes!) and have almost completed a valentine quilt/throw for the FR sofa. Next is a slipcover for a chair and ottoman. Attended a demo at the Novi expo on slipcovers. Bought the videos and can't wait to start. It's worth checking out: www.slipcoveramerica.com |

I just finished curtains for our media room, and they're even hung up, but then my husband was eagerly waiting for them. They're navy with toile on either side as trim. I also used blackout lining for the curtains. Let me tell you, blackout lining is big bulky and wrinkles very easily. Ticia |
