HI EVERYONE,

I AM TAKING A SEWING CLASS THAT IS CALLED "STEP BEYOND BEGINNERS"
AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW I WOULD BE IN THE LADIES ROOM WHEN THE CLASS WAS TOLD TO FINISH SEAMS FOR HOMEWORK. I DID'NT GET TO ASK IF THESE ARE ALL SEAMS OR JUST STRIAGHT SEAMS, SINCE WE HAVE ONLY FITTED AND CUT OUT THE PATTERN. I DON'T OWN A SERGER YET, SO DO YOU THINK I SHOULD ZIGZAG THE STRIAGHT SEAMS ONLY TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE SEAMS SHOULD FINISHED BEFORE THEY ARE SEWN :nervous: THANK YOU, FOR ANY ADVISE YOU CAN GIVE ME ON THIS.

Can you call and ask the teacher. It doesn't sound like you even cut the fabric out yet. :nervous: Penny

First off -- you can 't finish a seam before you sew because there is no seam until it's sewn.
You can, however, finish the edges of a cut fabric with a zig zag.
So if you are supposed to finish the edges, a zig zag is probably just what you want. But be sure it isn't too tight and draws the edges up so they are smaller.

I'm with Catalina. Call the teacher so that you'll know exactly what is to be expected of you. Finishing edges is not something that is easy to take back if you do it differently than she wants. She may not want you to finish all the edges either.

Thank You for your replies, and you are right I probably should have used
the term finishing edges. Calling the teacher is not an option at this point
I will just wait until the next class, rather than take a chance on really messing up.

Thanks Again
