Friends,

I am making the SIMPLEST THING IN THE WORLD and am having difficulty with mitered corners matching up - I am using a Simplicity pattern with the corners cut off (pathetic; I know) because I experienced unevenness by just cutting squares on my own, and even though I tried to cut evenly, I am having trouble lining them up, am taking a long time measuring the seams, and ironing as well. Any suggestions? I believe if I get this down, it will be academic regarding table runners, curtains, etc., and all other areas where this applies.

Thanks! God Bless!
May God Bless you!

Shirley,

no, just trying to get the corners to look flush and consistant on all 4 - I have been fooloing with it all day yesterday, and am having minimal success. There must be a better system.

It must be a square with a stitching line sewn around all edges, correct? Then you cut off close to the intersecting stitching lines at corners.

Mary W -

I did not do any guideline stitching; I cut the square with the corners already cut as per pattern piece, thinking this would be the way to go, then I pressed down the corners first to the guideline instructions, then I pressed the sides down 3/4" all around, and then pressed another 1/4" under that before stitching, as the pattern instructed. I like your idea better. I will try that. thanks!
