I have the Brother CS-8150, and to me it's a low shank. I'm wondering if I can use any low shank feet with this machine? I emailed the Brother company and they called it a med. shank which I've never heard of. They also didn't say anything about using other feet just where to buy their feet. I don't want to ruin my machine. Can anyone help me. |

I tried to see a close up of the shank size to know which it is so go here and you will be able to tell right away what you have and what you can use. http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page49.html |

If you find a foot with the shank that fits I suggest to double check to make sure that the foot is not one of the narrow type for a 5mm width because the newer machines are 6-7mm and if you used a deco or zig zag stitch on this narrow foot you could break a needle. |

I too have the Brother CS8150 - and trust me - it is a low shank foot. I don't know what Brother is talking about? Medium shank? All of my Janome and generic feet fit this machine - but as posted before, just make sure that the opening where the needle goes down is wide enough to accomodate a 7mm stitch width if you choose to use a stitch that wide. This machine will also use my Janome "free motion" feet (darning feet) and the "Big Foot". It will also accept my very very old Montgomery Ward screw on feet. Clotildes catalog sells a nice package of specialty feet for low shank machines. They are snap on's and will work with your Brother snap on adaptor. Blessed be...

Doesn't this machine use a snap on foot? Do you have to buy a foot with the hole shank attached? If a snap on I suggest to get a snap on foot but be sure the foots needle hole area is big enough to accomodate the wider zig zag width that is on the newer machines if yours is one that has the wider zz capability. |
