I'm a beginner and haven't tried putting a cuff on a sleeve or pant leg yet..with any success anyway! Do you sew it in a circle, THEN put it on the end of the sleeve or do you sew it together when you sew the side seam? I'll be serging, so if that makes a difference I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks!

It depends on what type of cuff you are making and what you are putting it on.
A rib knit cuff is sewn in a circle, folded in half and sewn on to the sleeve.

Other cuffs for blouses etc. are totally different.

If it is a knit you are talking about, I recently learned a new method. I think it was on Sewing With Nancy, but I'm not sure.. Anyway, fold your cuff RST-
and on short ends fold in half and then serge. reach into 1 layer only and turn right side out.. Voila you have the cuff or neckline ready to attach-- You stitched and folded all in one step.. Try it, you'll like it..! !

Libby, I assume you mean fold in half lengthwise RST?

Mary,
you have 2 folds.. 1. is the regular fold you always do for sewing the seam.. 2. is one more fold-- the seamline in half... then stitch it.. Now, reach under 1 layer only and flip to right side.. your ribbing is seamed in a circle and then folded in half by the stitching and it is ready to pin in place.. Take a little scrap and make a practice one, you will see how easy it is.. :bg: :bg:

Thanks, Libby! I tried it your way ...I'm using knits...and it did a NICE seam on the inside and out. Thanks for the great tip!

You are welcome.. I am positive I saw that tip on Sewing With Nancy..I love it and when I get to working on a lot of 'Libs Bibs' it saves me a lot of time.. Or Christmas time when I'm making lots of T-shirts and sweat shirts for gifts..
