I'm reading about those of you who use Embird Software & seem to be very happy with it. But I posted ("about to be LOST") about joining the embroidery brigade for the first time...all from visiting a dealer about buying a new basic sewing machine! The dealer I went to supports Generations software. Un-bundled in a package, I think it's something like $1700. One of the girls showed me how it worked off a basic design & I was enthralled. I'm an artsy person, so I could picture really using this software. Maybe coming up with new stuff for all of us! But is anyone using Generations, or has a reason NOT to recommend it? It certainly would be a big investment, but without knowing what else is out there, I don't know the difference! I appreciate all of your advice...I just don't want to make a costly mistake!!!! |

DD2U, I don't have any experience with the Generations software, but when I visited a local Janome dealer here, she recommended it over the Janome digitizing software. I don't have the money to invest in the software right now, but some day..... |

I don't have it and absolutely can't afford it. I've been looking around on the internet and found one called Embroidery Magic 2 (not to be confused with Embroidery Magic, which is just a lettering program) and it's only 129.00 with the tutorial. ( http://www.auntymdesigns.com/ ) Also, there is a yahoo users group for it if you need additional help, and it's run by the woman who sells it. I'm thinking about it... |

Thanks Sheri.....I'll have to look for that Yahoo forum on Generations. This is a toughy to get info on, because it doesn't seem widely used--and I'm sure because of the cost! The retailer that offered it would of course praise it, but honest opinions of users sure help! I hate to be suspicious, but you gotta look into this stuff. Do you have a link to that forum? Thanks again!!!!!! |

If you are looking for software and you are willing to pay that much, I would highly suggest the Artista V4. One of the reasons that Artista is so great is the way that it digitizes. As long as the product is in the ART format it can be infinately sized. It comes with TONS of fonts and can accept additonal fonts from any home computer program, has a quilting package, a great cross stitch application. You can do autodigitizing, and photo imaging, and of course, you can design directly on the screen. It has some neat applications so that you can duplicate from a center point, mirror image, roate designs, edit...very neat package. Depending upon where it is purchased, it should run $2000 or less. It was designed by a commerical company and slightly revamped for home use. The professional pkg runs $16,000. The of the major changes is that the home packages does not do professional formats. If you design and save in ART, as long as it is in that format, you have the sizing advantages...then you can convert the format when you send it to your machine. The longer I have this package, the more I learn and the more I realize I barely know what it can do.

although I don't have it, I have heard nothing but good things about the Artista software... and I do know that a lot of professional digitizers use it... One example would be Sherry Titzer www.atimetostitch.com just my 2 cents... MO life is too short, not to explore

Do you have a link to that forum? The yahoo support group for generations software can be found at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Generations_In_Embroidery/?yguid=65506439 You'll need to join the group. |
