I did this on two memory quilts for my new grandbabies recently. June Tailor makes a washable colorfast fabric sheet that comes three to a pack that can be run threw a printer or copier, check the pack to see which one is for the printer. You print out the pics on the sheets let the ink dry then tear off the paper backing and iron with a hot iron to set the ink. Then they tell you to rinse gently with cold water to color treat the fabric lay flat on a towel to pat dry do not wring out and dry with a hair dryer or an iron. Incorporate the fabric in your quilt as you like. It's fairly easy. I try to get as many photos on a sheet as possible because they run around 12.00 to 15.00 depending where you get the packs. WalMart carrys them here and most fabric stores. There is several cheaper but they are not colorfast and will fade when washed. Hope this helped.

I did a memory quilt as well but I used iron on transfer paper. I printed the pictures on the iron on transfer paper and then ironed the pictures onto white muslin. Worked well. I did a wall-hanging quilt that wasn't going to be washed, hopefully, but I don't think it would run anyway....says it wouldn't!

I did this for my daughter for Christmas. I used the June Taylor sheets and they worked real good. I also did one for my mother 5 years ago using the t-shirt sheets and ironed them on fabric worked good too.

You can make your own fabric sheets to print on. There is a product called Bubble Jet, that you treat your fabric (muslin usually) with first. Then iron on freezer paper and cut to 8.5" x 11. It is a little more work, but worth it, if you do a lot of them. It is cheaper than the June Taylor sheets. Also, if you don't think you will ever wash the quilt, you can just skip the treatment with the bubble jet. Warning, it will wash out.

I'm working on my first attic window block with pictures of my daughter's wedding for their anniversary in April. They were married in Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. I thought the attic window block was appropiate, since they are outside pictures. I have been buying the June Taylor sheets, but I'm in the process of buying the bubble jet. I can't find it in any stores, fabric or craft, so I'm shopping for it on the internet. I have found two sites that sell it.

http://www.prochemical.com/directions/BubbleJetSet.htm
http://softexpressions.com/software/notions/bubjet.html

I'm not endorsing these sites, as I still am shopping.

If you can't find it Liz, let me know and I will see if the one quilt shop that had it in Traverse City still has it. If they do I can mail to you.

Hmmm T.C. is only a 2.5 hour drive from me. I haven't visited TC in about a year. Are they open on the weekends? Maybe I can come down for a day and we can visit the store together? Of course, with the price of gas, it would be cheaper to mail it, but then I would not be able to shop at the quilt shop. :nc:

I'm not going to be available on the week ends for about 5 weeks. They are open on Saturdays. It just changed names but it used to be Sewing Depot, the address is 1425-F South Airport Rd, phone number 946-2554. If you don't come down I will be glad to sgo see if they still have it. I used to stop in there 2 or 3 times a week. Its right across the street from where I used to work.

Liz is right. The method with bubble jet and making your own fabric works. I just wanted to add this. The fabric you buy needs to be treated also to get rid of the chemicals that is in them. You can buy cotton that is untreated. Just explain to the sales rep that you would like untreated cotton. Otherwise you have to buy the rinse with the bubble jet.

Yes, I do know who John is. Let me guess what bar...hmmmm....The Northland, Dave & Renee? :re:

So who are you and where are you? Hockeytown? Is that the Detroit area (I'm thinking Red Wings). Gee, the internet makes the world such a smaller place.

No never have made it as yet. We were going to stop there last fall when we traveled around the country but we were running behind by about 4 days so we skipped that part of the trip. Had to get to Baltimore so we could go to Niagra Falls with some friends. Great trip. Maybe next year. We are planing another long trip and hope to get to TC along with the Toronto area. Have some real good friends up that way I would like to see. Also plan to go through Ohio and Indiana again but we are going to stop over in Amish country this time.

charlie... if you come to Ohio and visit our Amish country you will never want to leave... really neat.. lots of great quilt places... make sure you visit "LEHMAN's HARDWARE" in KIDRON, ohio... really neat place... just like my grandpa's old dry goods store....they cater to the amish population, so have lots of neat things... you need at least 2 days to do Amish country right...

just my 2 cents...

We hope to be able to get back there sometime late this summer. It all depends on the sale of our house. We are putting it up for sale and then we intend to trade our travel trailer for a small motorhome. Then it is back on the road again. I used to live in Columbus when I was a kid but, that was a long time ago.

Just an update. There is a new quilt shop open in a town nearby me. I got a chance to go there yesterday. They had their grand opening this past Saturday. Anyway, they didn't have Bubble Jet in stock, but they found it in their supply catalog. So they ordered it for me. They called me today and said they should have it in by Friday!   That gives me a reason to visit their shop next Saturday with my sister who will be here from out of town for a visit. If your reading this Teresa, bring lots of money. You need to catch up with me on the fabric stash! :dave:
Thanks again for all of the offers of help in finding this for me.

Hi my name is Joy. I want to make a photo quilt for my grandaughters. I'm thinking of transfering the photos onto muslin & attaching them to jean material. I chose this type of quilt because it is not bound off so I can add to it as they grow. I can get the newer pictures added at a later time.
My question is,which method would you suggest. Transfering by iron on transfer or fabric printing. I have done the fabric transfer on a dolls face but this didn't require many washings. Which method would stand up to many washings over the years, I don't want to go to all this work if it isn't going last for many years. And what if I do the muslin/freezer paper method what do I have to seal it. Has anyone out there done this jean quilt with photos any helpful hint & tips appreciated.
Thanks Joy
