Hey everyone I got Joanne's persmission to announce this~ I am doing the Monthly Advent Blocks in her thread and I thought it would be great to do another quilt JUST out of the house blocks, with each month having a different theme: For example Do : Jan. with snow or use the same one we all just did~ , Feb with valentines stuff, March with Shamrocks, April, Easter stuff, May with Flowers, June with whatever (someone help me think of one for this month) and July with patriotic, August with back to school stuff, September with Apples, October with Halloweeny, November with Pumpkins stuff, Dec of course with Christmasy stuff. We would need to do Nov and Dec at the same time so this would allow us time to get them done before the holidays get here for gifts! The best part is Joanne said she would start a new album for just these blocks! So it will not be confusing for everyone let's call this thread Monthly Holiday House Blocks then the first of Dec. we could all have Joanne post our quilts! I like this idea!!!!!!!!!! Hope you will too! Who wants to join in on this fun????????????? I got to get busy now and do Feb's Valentiney fabric! Great time to buy that fabric girls. It is on Clearance now since the holiday is over~ Hope to see some pretty Holiday House blocks! One of the best gifts to give a child/grandchild is your listening ear.

The only holidays I can think of in June are Father's Day & Flag Day. There is also Graduations & weddings. I'm Not sure I am up to this one but I do love doing the houses. Would we have to do them each month or could we work on them as we find the fabric.

Barb, This is not a must do thread. Just work on them as you have time and we can keep them posted for all to see. I am sure Joanne wouldn;'t mind, right Joanne?

Hmmm let me think? Do I want to do another quilt? YES!!! That sounds like fun! Plus it will keep us busy in between waiting for the next block on the other quilt! That way we won't drive Joanne and Mary nuts! I love the idea!! Good thinking! I'm off to start my blocks I missed! LOL

Hi Everyone I am a bit lost here. I understand that you want to do themed house blocks. But where do we get the pattern for the orignal block? Does Sew What's New have a quilt house block for us to us? I am new to this forum and have only done a few strips type quilts. I do a bit of machine embroidery and making a house block square and then adding embroidery sounds exactly like something I would like to do. So do count me in. I can hardly wait to start. When you clik on that link above you will need to go to Advent/Holiday Quilt block Lessons and then scroll down to 1. Block One January to get the HOUSE BLOCK PATTERN! Although this thread is being called the HOLIDAY HOUSE BLOCK QUILT it is JUST HOUSE BLOCKS ONLY EACH MONTH> Each month we will decorate our House with different themes. I will post this evening when I get home from work all the themes. For January use a Snowy theme, and for Feb. use Valentiney theme. When we finish our quilt we will have 12 blocks for our quilts. Happy Sewing~ Dorene One of the best gifts to give a child/grandchild is your listening ear.

I think I'd like to join the fun, too. I really liked doing the January house block. Of course I really liked doing the February flower block, too. I may end up with a "House of the Month" quilt...a "Flower of the Month" quilt...and on and on...plus of course, one very special "Advent Block Quilt". Love the site and all the great ideas. The pictures in the galleries are wonderful! Joanne, did you have any idea that we'd all get such a kick out of your lessons? |

MandM If you look on the home page and go to quilting links you'll find an archive of other blocks that Jo and Mary have done before - I made a sampler quilt from these 12 blocks (and added some more from quilters cache) and made one at a rate of a block a week! This quilt ( now 25 blocks...) is thrown over my sofa to protect it from the lunatic cat. So if you REALLY NEED to accelerate your BOM rate you could do one from there. There are all sorts of goodies like that 'hidden' on the site that one should really dig around for. As I go straight to the message boards when I come here I often forget there is more to sew whats new that just my chums! love and kisses, Jan

I think I have changed my mind about the holiday blocks. It sounds like fun but I think 1 more quilt will stress me out & that would defeat the purpose of sewing. Maybe this summer when I am off work I might try again but I have a graduation party in June to put on & a 50th Bday party for DH in July. Then back to work in August. We also have 3 weddings this summer to attend. So I am going to be lucky to get the 7 done that I have started. But I am not going to give up but it might be slower going than I expected when I started.

Oh Barb, Not a problem~ Sometimes we all get alittle too much on our plates and have to give up something. Don't even worry about this, put it in the someday pile. That's what I do when I over extend myself. I admire you for having 7 going at once! WHEW! Your plate is running over. LOL! take care and always remember you quilting friends here are the best, bc we will always keep you in stitches. Hope the birthday party, weddings and all go well for you!
