Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this zipper I have taken apart at least 5 times. I have tried basting, tapeing, and sewing from the bottom up this zipper area still has puckers. please tell me what I doing, or not doing to cause this. This is a dress with a back centered zipper I'm not sure the fabric will take much more of this seam ripper. Thanks for any advice. Wendy |

What kind of fabric and zipper are you using? Penny |

Make sure you are stitching in the same direction on both sides. I personally always stitch top to bottom. You may need to add interfacing in the seam allowance to support the zipper. If you are using a "used" zipper it may already have ripples that won't go away. You might want to try a sample of the same fabric rather than trying again on the garment until you get it figured out. Good Luck! |

Stablising the seam is a good idea. Have you considered using and invisible zipper? I haven't used an ordinary zipper for years - love the invisible ones. I often measure and mark the zipper say 10cm and mark the fabric and line those points up. Good luck Skye |

I just went through this! I fought with a zipper for nearly two days and it just kept puckering up. Everytime I pinned it, it was flat; I pressed it and basted with no trouble -but as soon as I sewed it, there were puckers. I finally discovered one half of the zipper was about 1/4" lower than the other side. I guess the pins and the basting allowed it to slide enough when I pressed that it was okay, but the stitching was much tighter. Re-check all your seams and reference points, and measure from the edges to the top and to the bottom of the zipper tape, making sure they line up. Hope this helps! "No more twist! No more twist!"

Thank you Ladies for your advice, the Fabric is Wool Gaberdine and the Zipper is Polyester. DragonLady, you described exactly what was happening to me, basted in fine I measured that zipper and sure enough if was off just a little. I finally got it in without the puckers. Thanks so much |
