Simply Quilts!
She showed her techinques on how she does her quilts. She does paper piecing to create her pictures. She has a lot of talent and her quilts look like paintings.
Happy sewing/quilting/crafting

I am new to the group and having problems finding my way around...I love house blocks and was interested in finding the house BOM??? can anyone direct me to the patterns????
Might as well introduce myself, I am Barbara, 62 years young, DH and I live on a farm in SE Colorado. I work as a bookkeeper for the local irrigation company that supplies water to the farmers. We have 3 children, 10 grandchildren and almost 4 great grandchildren..LOL Breast cancer survivor of 14 years now. Love doing the charity quilts for kids and our guild has formed a sister chapter for them....keeps me very busy but do enjoy.
I have been quilting for 14 years now and love internet swapping...which has gotten me into trouble...now they are sitting there in stacks waiting for me to put them together and quilt them...LOL
Can't resist new patterns and fabric....my DH says that my sewing room will be well stocked for the next person that finds it...LOL I also collect old Singer sewing machines, I only have one newer machine which is a White with a few special stitches... I can't find a machine that will replace my FW for regular sewing, my 301s for machine quilting and etc... :)
Enough of me, hope all are well and sewing away.
Warm hugs
Barbara

lv2quilt,
The house block is in the Beginer Quilting Topic, under Advent Quilt January block. The directions for it can be found on the home page under Quilting, either in the Sections or Main Menu area on the left side. http://sew-whats-new.com/CMS/index.php From what I read this is the same block they are using for the Monthly house block.

http://www.sew-whats-new.com/lesson_blocks/advent/block1.pdf is where the house blocks are.
For the Holiday House blocks we are using the same house block just doing each month's different. Jan is snow, Feb is Val, March Is shamrock. Hope this helps!

I came to this site today (first time since Oct.04 - it says) because I wondered if anyone does quilt landscapes. I found this letter about Charlotte Warr Andersen. It's the beginning for me of adding some knowledge about this type of quilting. I checked out a library book this week titled "A Bridge to Landscape Quilts" by Mary L. Hackett. These fabric paintings (I'll call them) are beautiful and have started my imagination soaring. I'd like to learn about it since it is different that just sewing blocks together (which is also fun), but allows you to recreate a favorite scene with a rainbow of fabric colors. Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi MaryB and welcome back to Sew Whats New. I really don't have the courage to try a fabric painting. I did, however find out Charlotte Warr has designed thread just for these specific quilt techniques.

Joanne is the quilt teacher here, and she is trying one out I think. I envy anyone who can put these together, they are beauties for sure. A total work of art.

Hi Mary, there are many talented quilters that combine the painting and applique to do these quilts. I am just now drawing out something egyptian for my daughter then combine with applqiue and embroidery. Painting is defiantely not my strong point but may attempt doing some pyramids for the background.

Hi Joanne and Mary W

Yes, I read in the one book I have on the subject that you are free to combine all types of quilting, applique, actually painting, etc. I've seen one picture of a landscape of the ocean where a whale's tail is visible as he dives under the water. They say the foam on the tail is done by using dyed or painted cheese cloth attached somehow to the fabric, and it looks so realistic.

Recently I've found myself looking at sunsets and sunrises over the bright snowy ground in this area, and the dark bare trees with their beautiful outlines and wondering where would I start. I believe you begin with the sky and work your way back to yourself (so to speak), making far away objects (trees or?) very small, and objects near you larger in proportion. But there is so much more to it than that and I want to grasp it more before I start cutting up fabric. Probably.
