What is the best way to cut out a rectangle or square WITHOUT using quilter's tools? I am going to be teaching a basic sewing class and one of our projects involves cutting out a rectangle. With my ruler, mat, and rotary cutter this is a snap for me... but how should I instruct newbies (who don't have any "gear" except scissors) in how to do it? Any advice is appreciated! see the mundane life of a housewife.

Maybe they should draw the rectangle with air erasable ink. Then they can just cut on the lines. Dorothy |

Seems to me you should have them get a ruler and some kind of marking pencil besides scissors before they come to class.

It's a Basic Sewing for Moms & Dads - a couple simple things for beginner sewers to make their kids. No quilting.
