Yes I have! And believe me I'm not too happy about it at all!!

I can thank all of the "snot-slingers"; (co-workers) that refuse to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze.
I had to leave work on Wednesday; thank God I could get into the Dr.; I left there with 3 prescriptions and 2 shots in my behind!! My Dr. also gave me some medication so that my DH wouldn't get sick. ( Very nice of him )
I was out of work the rest of the day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
I sure hope my co-workers enjoy doing my work!!
I will be back to work on Monday!
(too bad I didn't feel better or I could have got some serious housework done!!)

Yes! I haven't been sick in years and I guess I paid for it with this. Woke up coughing on a Sat. by Sun had a temperature that just wouldn't go away no matter what I did. Called out sick at work and by Weds decided I had better get myself to the doctor. "Just" the flu, checked for pneumonia just the same, wrote a Rx for some cough medication ($172.00 for 8ounces)  Missed the rest of the week. Still had a temp and feeling terrible, nose wouldn't stop running, sneezing, cough, body aches etc. Went back to work on Monday and it was a struggle to get thru the day. Went right to bed when I got home and slept til I had to be up and on the road the next morning. Getting stronger as each day passes though. DH (and he was a Dear) made sure I had lots of liquids to drink and made sure I ate something. Had lots of soup and chicken (don't like chicken soup :bg: )and made sure I got lots of rest.

I have gotten a flu shot every year since 1992 (year first gs was born) and I can really tell a difference.. I have not had the flu in all those years.. I did have Pneumonia and had to be hospitalized because I kept on working with a cold (boss insisted) and I coughed myself right into pneumonia.. (served her right for insisting I come to work. ) I was out 10 days...But, I have not had flu.. The pneumonia was a sort of blessing in disguise, because I was so sick and short of oxygen that when I was well again, I never had the urge to smoke again.. I had smoked for almost 50 years, but that was the end of it.. I have not smoked even once since that time.. I guess I had to be scared for my life before it impacted me enough to quit.. I really believe in the flu shots for older adults and all people who have allergies, or any form of copd, .. :coffee2:

I have had a flu shot every year for years and this one was the first year I couldn't get one. They were really strict giving them out this year. Seems like only the health dept was handing them out. I'm younger than 65 and since I "only" work in a correctional setting they didn't think it was necessary for the nurses to get one. Go figure.

I'm allergic to flu shots (actually the preservitive). So I tend to stay away from sick people as much as possible, wash my hands, etc....my husband DID have a cold week before last, said 10 people he works with have had it. Luckily I didn't get it (yet...crossing fingers).

The last time I had a flu 'shot' was for the swine flu (takes ya back to the 70's doesn't it....) and NO one really needed the darn things...

I have had an ear and sinus infection but no flu!!! Knock on wood!!! As someone else said above "the snot-slingers" in our office are sent home when they come in sick. We've also been furnished with the antibacterial Purell hand disinfectant and alcohol wipes in all our offices. Believe it or not, the women in our office have discovered from using the women's restroom that we work with women who don't wash their hands after they use the bathroom. How gross can you get. We all go around wiping door knobs, etc. in our office. I am constantly washing my hands at home and my bathroom and kitchen reek of clorox cleaner. We didn't get flu shots at the State this year either as they were only giving them to the elderly and special needs. Three of my sisters have had the really bad flu crap and been in bed at least a week. They did have their flu shots because they are caretakers for our mother but their doctors all told them the same thing -- the flu shot they had had nothing to do with the strain of flu that is going around this year so go figure on that one!!! Hope you all continue to stay well.

It has been quite bad here as well. Knock on wood, hubby, Jordan and I have stayed clear of it so far. Most of the people I know who have really suffered with it had a flu shot!

Today I had to go back to the dr. Seems that my sinus infection has moved to my ear and down my throat.
I have been coughing my head off each night. My throat is red and hurts!
So today I went back to the dr. Another copay and 4 more prescriptions!! Good golly this is getting expensive!
I didn't get the flu shot~I just have lots of very inconsiderate co-workers!
I pray that none of y'all have to suffer with this like I have!

I have only been hit with the ear and sinus thing this time around, knock on wood. Guess not being around people 8 hours a day is saving me this year.

Woke up with no voice this morning - worked in to a very sexy contralto - obviously time to re-record the answerphone message
"hello, you don't know who you have reached, do you? my names Sharon and I'm sitting here in my...."maybe not.
Explosive sneezes are hell with the stress incontinance - and my nose has developed independant life. O joy.
It's just a cold - I'll live!

I had a fly shot.

My Dad used to do a ery good line in a hot rum toddy. As a kid I didn't realise it had alcohol in and Dad's Magic Medicine knocked me out every time!

:throw: Hi friend
You have had a flu shot every year for years and this one was the first year you couldn't get one. They were really strict giving them out this year. Seems like only the health dept was handing them out. Really it is very good news that you have not had flu infection this year, along with this you have to concentrate on the medication like tamiflu drug for more information see-
http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3353-s-tamiflu.aspx it has complete information
And you will feel good with it.

I was sick most of December and January. Cough, congestion, lethargy, etc. Didn't get a flu shot, and don't know if I had the flu, but whatever it was, it turned into pneumonia with cough/chills/fever and then depression. Thanks to anitbiotics, inhaler and codeine cough medicine, I'm finally feeling better and my energy is coming back. Hope you're all feeling better now. Jean

I don't believe I've ever had a genuine flu - just the 24 hour virus type stuff. I come from healthy stock!! But my daughter is a nurse and the doc she works for in Ohio told us to come on in and get a flu shot while we were visiting. So off we went and got it. I'm a diabetic so that's the reason i got it and my dh is very susceptable to pneumonia and bronchitus. I'm a very big believer in herbs and if I even feel a sniffle I start on my echinacea and ester c and it usually doesn't develop into anything serious. I always take a grape seed extract and vit E every day and I think that helps keep your immune system up!
I used to hate it when people came to work sick. Just stay at home and don't share it with me! And the hand washing thing is the worse thing ever. That and peeing on the seat. Women can be just as gross as men!
I've noticed that at church some women just pee and go. No hand washing so I make sure not to shake too many hands!!!

Hi All, couldn'd help but read all these posts and smile........sort of......

I have just gotten over a bad bad bad cold for the last 10 days.....no thanks to my DD who brought it home from school..

The funny thing is that I am writing this all the way from Perth Australia, where it has been stinking hot day and night and there is nothing like a cold in the heat :bluesad:

But I am much better and finally back in the sewing room!!

Hope you all fit healthy if not now real soon

Someone shared the flu bug with me. Misery and 2 weeks recovering from it. Shortly after that I went down with a bad case of food poisoning, 3 weeks and still fighting to get back to normal from that. I am so ready for some sunshine and warm weather to chase away the winter "bugs"

Chry,,

Oh my!!
we need to get together ( pm)
I am also one who cannot take the shot, allergic to eggs

it is just strange to see someone else that has alligiegs as bad as I do.

As for colds & flu, I catch everything, at one time I didn't get anything
but I was reading at a web site last night, and I think I know why I am sick a lot anymore.. I will have to ask the Dr about it.. but I was reading that at the lamisil web site.. made me go hmmmm.

immunocompromised system due to almost 25 years of corticosteroid cream, due to my skin condtion.. steroid it is the only treatment out on the market for what I have, but last year I do remember them coming out with something new that was non-steroid, I have an appt to see a skin Dr on the 21st, which I havent' seen one since 1985, I hope something new will be out that can keep this under control.
