Nice job on your houses Oklahomanana! I love them!! I am not so lucky to have all the material you do so I have to embellish! :nc: I am going to try to have my first 2 done and sent in today. The kids have a snow day so we will see how it goes! LOL I had a little problem with getting them the right size this time. So I will keep myself busy fixing them and working on March's house block while I wait for the advent March block. :bluewink:

 Thanks Joanne for posting them and thanks to both for the compliment! I am having so much fun doing these! Can't wait to do Easter egg house now! I think personally the more variety of fabric we use the prettier the houses will be, Teresa. So excited to see yours, so get them up girlfriend~! ROFL! Got to make 3 more March ones today, so I can be up to par on my 5 quilts.
Have a wonderful day sewing all, I have work 8-5 today, but the ole machine will hum tonight! LOL!
Maybe the advent block will be up too when I get home! YIPPEE!

Oh I love these houses and they are just what I had in mind...........and I wasn't going to do this as I have more to do than I can finish now but........may have to dig in my boxes and see what I can come up with. Great job.............and a good motivation for the rest of us.

I was stumped as how to get snow into the Jan. block but your little house gave me a few ideas...............helps to see someone elses ideas so you get your own for some reason.

So are you doing a all flower quilt too? LOL

I'm a new quilter, and I went to see oklahomanana's house blocks and fell in love! Is there a pattern available for this somewhere? I am SO green -- bear with me, please!

I wondered about that, too, when I saw the block (thanks for the link to the site, Joannequilts!). I wonder how it would be laid out?

Share your ideas! I think I could actually DO this quilt, if it were all flowers.

Norma, Are you doing a flower quilt?
I heard once that true quilters have at least 6 to 10 projects going at once. I am just about there! ROFL!
See what you started Joanne? :bolt:
LOL! I love it~ Just teasing ya~
Then the teacher last night had our books ready for us to purhase for the double wedding ring~ One girl said I think I'd rather go join sew whats new and do houses and flowers~ LOL~ A whole lot easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You and Mary created a whole new kind of quilting for me, and I am having a ball with it. I enjoy my other class too, but these girls on here are hilarious~ have a wonderful day~ My other class doesn't have the naughty corner either. ROFL! Is it my turn to sit there yet?????????? ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets see. I have two Block of the Month quilts from Joann's going, I have two of the Advent quilts going, I am hand quilting a Grandmother's flower garden that I have been quilting for the last two years, I have a quilt top that I am making a piece backing for, one quilt top that needs backing and a applique quilt that is about 1/3 done.............not to mention several projects for the grand kids. There are several other things in the works too.

So I really need to do the house quilt and the flower quilt too, don't you think. I dug in my stash and found hearts and shamrocks...............if I just didn't need to sleep at night!

A few years ago I appliqued some Christmas sweatshirts and my dd sold them to folks at work. This Christmas when she went back to visit, a bunch of people asked for more.............so I have the sweatshirts and the fabric, just need to get started on them so if they sell, it adds to my Christmas budget quite a bit......................

OK, Oklahomanana, you need to quit getting me in trouble here! :nc:

This is so much fun when someone is out there to share all this with.

Finally done after having problems with the size of them, my sewing machine decided to eat one of them! Now I am ready to go shop for next months block. I don't think I could handle more than this quilt and the other BOM quilt at the same time! LOL Those of you who are doing many at a time, I admire you!! :bg:

I did this Block yesterday before I went to work, and Got it all done, and was putting the button on it for the doorknob, and what do ya know, I discovered I had put the window and door on opposite sides~ Adds variety to it I guess, But I still may re-do it. One of those things that may look okay to everyone else but you know in your heart it is wrong I think I did it that way because I am having withdraws about the April Advent Block to come out~! ROFL!!!!!!!!!! My body just kept saying you gotta see a April block soon girl, so the Easter Bunny helped me out! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hint Hint Mary W! LOL!!!!!!!!!! My nerves may calm down enough after we get our April block that I can go back and redo it! ROFL~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hurry Mary! You know I am just teasing you and Jo! Hugs! :nah:

Don't feel bad, I messed up my April block too. I mixed knit with cotton! learned not to do that one again! LOL So I ended up way off on the measurments. Instead of redoing it, I added an extra piece at the bottom of the house to make up the difference! Not my faviorite block, but I may leave it as a gentle reminder that I am a begginer! LOL

Thank you Oknana.........I really had fun with them. March (shamrocks) is out there somewhere..........I resent it to Jo in case it got lost in cyperspace.

Dh says he thinks we drove through Hobart on the way to his Mom's. I made a few trips to the Anadarko WalMart while we were there as Dh was doing some fixups for my MIL..........and too, they were just starting their summer clearance sales! I don't know much about the area althought that is where his Mom's family is from. We have been married 38 years and that was my first trip to Oklahoma. Beautiful place, I was amazed by how green it was coming from not so green AZ.

Teresa, Thank you...........looking forward to seeing your May block. It just took one small visit to Joann's for mine to change..........and June's too!! I was really struggling with May and then saw all kinds of things I could use.

Have you thought about what you are going to use as shashing? I am really wondering what I can use that will tie all these colors together in the end..........oh well, time to think about that one too as I have eight blocks to go! Hope to get this one finished this summer after the fall and Christmas fabrics come out so I can used it as a gift for my friend.

Have fun!

WIll have to be choosing in the day or so, got to get it on down the road so to speak!

It is going great! i just ironed fusible innerfacing to the back of each shirt over the area I was going to cut and then pressed it on with a steam iron and I was good to go for the cutting of it. I used a 15 inch square ruler for each block and did 20 blocks. 4 across and 5 down. I have mostly yellows, greys and dark blues in the shirts. Any ideas for color of sashings? Thanks~ p.s No problems so far except trying to decide which color to use/
Carolyn was it you that did the Harley Quilt? If so where is that again? I was wanting to see what you did for sashing.

This is a friend who has been there with me through thick and thin. Every major thing that has happened in my life for the last 14 or so years, she has been there for me and I hope I have been there for her.....We might not see each other for months and pick up right where we left off..........She doesn't craft or sew but has great admiration for any thing handmade so I know that if I make her something, it will be treasured. But like I said, can I bear to part with it because I have enjoyed making the houses and I like them when they are done.

Jo, got any suggestions for sashing and borders? There are so many bright prints in so many colors here. I don't want black but I guess something dark will be best?? What do you think?

Look at the sashing and border as a frame to a picture. If you have alot of bright colors you want to tone it down a bit and then vice versa. When you have most of your blocks done you lay them down on the floor and take a good look at which color sticks out the most to you. Now for ie it was light blue....you would maybe go with a nice med to dark blue. There is no rule to the colors etc but if one has trouble deciding this is the best way to decide. :bg:

Norma, your friend will love the quilt :bluewink:

Mary, I like that idea and Joann's has that tiny brick fabric I used for the chimny on the bolt now. Maybe that would make a inner border and then add another color on the outside. Thank you, don't think I would have thought about using that.............I am definately enjoying this quilt...........maybe that is why I am actually doing it!!

Thanks Teresa and Oknana!

Jo,
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one up at "all hours of the night". The fish in my tank get more sleep than I so!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( Of course there is a population explosion in there right now :dave: )

Love that watermelon fabric!! Not too thrilled with July.........there were lots of red white and blue prints around but most of them were too big for the house..................so watch me find one now that would work better! Oh well there is always quilt number two or three................LOL
